We paid £198 for this: 2 nights b&b, 3 course dinner on 2nd night, free bottle of wine on 2nd night cos we had dinner there the first night, 2 free passes to the Royal Yacht Britannia (in Edin - usually £10pp) and a spectacular 2 course lunch, with a glass of wine each, in Malmaison (Edin), and use of... more

No negatives. Hotel good and clean. Excellent service, nothing too much trouble. Breakfast and evening meals delicious. Lovely pool and adequte gym. Lovely grounds. The Travelzoo deal including trip on Royal Yacht Britannia, one evening meal in hotel and lunch at Malmaison in Leith was really good value. Will probably make a return visit. more

Stayed here for 2 nights and couldn't wait to leave. Hotel was in a beautiful setting and the grounds were really magnificent. However, the room was dirty. It had been cleaned but only superficially, lots of cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and layers of dust on the skirting boards, etc. I could have put up with that but the clincher... more

I stayed here to attend wedding celebrations down at The Cringletie. It was good value for a Saturday/Sunday night - especially good as it was a bank holiday weekend in the UK but not in Scotland :) I arrived late on the Saturday after a day exploring Edinburgh and seeing a show at the Fringe. Reception were welcoming. Arrived too... more

Lovely entrance area and public rooms with warm, welcoming staff. Shame that the rooms havent been done to the same standard. Dated but clean. Vibrant egg yolk yellow bathroom was a bit too Austin Powers for me. Breakfast was boring and a little school canteen where residents queue in line with ready plate to have food dished up. Food overcooked... more

Four of us stayed here over the weekend of 23 - 25 October 2009 having got a fantastic rate for bed and breakfast through a promotion at work of £29.99 per night. We arrived at around 16:30 and check - in was quick and staff were welcoming and offered us each a glass of whiskey ! Our rooms were 223... more

Poor experience. Stayed for 4 nights in September. Grounds and location are wonderful. Quiet location, beautiful forest setting with walks and waterfalls. The hotel lets it down. On checking in our room was dirty - it had obviously been 'cleaned' - e.g. the bed had been changed and bathroom accessories replenished, but that seemed to be it. Lots of hair... more

We really enjoyd our stay at Barony Castle. Rooms are standard, bathrooms need renovating as I found the tiles etc very old fashioned but other than that the hotel's dining and bar look like a 5* hotel! Breakfast was very good and dinner was delicious and not overpriced at all- 3 courses for £22!!! We had a really nice walk... more

We stayed at Barony Castle on the Travelzoo promotion, found on their website. We were dubious after reading some of the reviews on this site, but what we found was helpful friendly staff, a cosy comfortable room with beautiful views over the gardens and clean well organised reception lounges etc.The swimming pool and gym were clean and well maintained. We... more
