A fab guest house that catered for not only people, but dogs too. Needed a stop over on the way from the highlands to Wales and my patent found this place online. Hosts were really friendly and welcoming, the room was clean and spacious with easy access outside to avoid traipsing through the rest of the house with a dog.... More

Some friends and I stayed here in early May for a night, and it was an absolutely lovely experience. My partner, daughter and I had the family room, which has a large bedroom and also a separate sitting room, which is a great thing to have, I wish all places did the same as it makes life much easier. There... More

Me and my partner stayed on Friday night. The welcome was warm and genuine, the room very comfortable and the breakfast lovely. If you are travelling the Solway coast, we can whole-heartedly recommend Alva as a place to lay your head !

When we arrived at Alva House we hadn't expected it to be so lovely. Very comfortable, clean, warm and beautiful room with splendid views over the Solway. Linda and John were very friendly, interesting and helpful with local knowledge. Lovely breakfasts, made even better by the stunning sight of thousands of Barnacle Geese flying into the near field in the... More

My husband and I stayed at Alva house for four nights, but really we could have stayed indefinitely. The hosts, Linda and John are the friendliest people you could hope to meet and the house itself is beautiful, as is the large garden. Our poodle Gabriel was treated as one of the family. There's wildlife galore; birds, squirrels, fishes and... More

A lovely guesthouse in a stunning location, Linda and John couldn't have been more welcoming. The room was perfect- we have two lively toddlers and every last detail had been thought of. We had a large bedroom with comfortable beds and a separate lounge area next to the room complete with a box of toys to keep the boys entertained.... More

John and Linda the owners were very friendly and welcoming to us and our cocker spaniel Charlie. The room was clean and spacious and led right onto the lovely garden. We had an excellent dinner as well as the fabulous breakfast the next morning. Within easy reach of lovely beaches such as Sandyhills.

Friendly welcome. Comfortable beds in twin room. Next to road but not a busy one. View over fields to sea and coastline. Good breakfast set us up for visit to local bird reserve at Mersehead. Should have made time to look at the garden.

My partner and I stayed here for two nights while we explored the South West of Scotland. Alva House is beautiful and the hospitality we recieved was superb. The rooms were clean and more than adequate. The food was delicious and all home grown from the garden. I would definitely recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone.
