Really good rooms in a modern block behind an older house where the reception, bar and restaurant are situated. Set in lovely landscaped gardens (part of the Crichton estate) that are open to the public. A lovely peaceful setting with great views. The restaurant was the weak point - maybe they were just trying too hard. Quite expensive and not... more

The hotel is nice - on site of old hospital for mentally impaired. It is impressive until something goes wrong. We had endless problems which were not resolved. In our opinion, the immaculately dressed manager did not appear to be interested in discussing our concerns either at the time we complained, the next morning or when we checked out. In... more

I stayed at the Aston for one night in early April 2008 (business trip). The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The Aston Hotel is very bright, modern and comfortable. The room was extremely well appointed, with lovely fixtures and fittings, and a HUGE double (King-sized? Emperor-sized?!!) bed. The bathroom was excellent too: very bright spacious and modern. The... more

We stayed at the Aston on recommendation from friends. The location was lovely being in a parkland setting with views to the distant hills. We received a friendly and efficient welcome on arrival, our room was spacious, very well appointed and spotlessly clean. Both Dinner and Breakfast were very good. The choice was excellent, dishes were beautifully presented and cooked to... more

Having stayed a year ago with a fantastic experience, we very much looked forward to returning. We were sorely disappointed! When we arrived at reception, the clerk was busily engaged in conversation with the housekeeping staff and ignored us for several minutes, although with apologies afterwards. Our room was lovely, as expected, complete with Wifi. We went to the bar... more

After booking in advance this hotel for a friend's wedding, I was upset to firstly see that the rates on the website were not as we were charged - the 'discounted wedding rate' was more expensive than listed. Considering the room booking was 8 months away, we were dismayed that the hotel refused to refund our deposit after the wedding... more
