I can’t rate this place highly enough. It really is my favourite hotel, especially being a biker myself. I’ve been here twice in 6 months, although we only had drinks last time but stayed 2 nights this time. I do know I’ll definitely be back again ASAP. On meeting Dave again the 2nd time, you’d think he was my mate of 40 years that had last met only a couple of weeks ago. What a lovely fella. And after 2 days, and meeting some of his family, that goes for them too. They really are special people. It was out of season this time, bed and breakfast only, (November to March), but he suggested plenty of great eating places, all types of cuisine to please everyone’s taste buds. Traditional Scottish hearty grub, to Chippy, Indians, Italians and Chinese to name but a few and all within 80 yds of their front door. They were keen to tell us about the surrounding area, and even planned a route for us to check out with numerous different beautiful locations and attractions, including where we’d be likely to see golden eagles and again, boy, was he right. Amazing sights that I could have sat and watched all day. The hotel was immaculately clean, all the usual facilities in the double room, including the all important very comfortable bed and lovely sparkling, modern, spacious en-suite with large sink, toilet and walk in shower cubicle. The breakfast’s, which were expertly and cheerfully cooked by Lara, I had a full Buccleuch Scottish breakfast both days, set me up for the day, both times, and listen to this. On the breakfast request form, which you fill in the evening before, there was the ‘MAGIC BOX’ as Dave explained, “You can put anything you like in that box, if there’s a specific way you like anything cooked, lightly done, well done, or crispy bacon for instance, put it in there. Your a growing lad, you might want extra slices, or an extra sausage, stick it in there and we’ll sort it out. If there’s anything you don’t see, or isn’t on our (very extensive) list, put it down and we’ll try and source it. That’s why it’s called a magic box.” I tried it, well done bacon and 1 extra slice. Wow, it worked. I’ve never seen that before but what an amazing touch. Now that’s service and hospitality for you. After telling us the good establishment’s to eat our evening meal, he also suggested a few bars for a drink, adding, and showing us the very well stocked honesty bar in the residents sitting room, that you could come back to once the local pubs had shut in case you hadn’t already consumed enough. 🍺🍺Which incidentally we hadn’t, both nights. Like he said, I’m a growing lad. 🤣 where also, if we’d preferred we could also have taken back a takeaway, to eat in, with all plates, dishes, cutlery, condiments etc at hand, including a trolley close by to leave any dirty dishes on for them to wash up at their earliest opportunity, and a sealed bin for the wrappers and/or boxes. And it was, when you’re done, just write on one of those chits what you’ve had, there’s the pencils, and leave it in the basket and we’ll add it to your bill. Then, “On your way out, flick those two switches to knock the lights out.”They even had, which I’ve never, ever seen before, or even crossed my mind, a little wire hook, in the centre of all the condiment trays, with a tiny pair of scissors hanging to cut the corners off the often very fiddly condiments sachets. Absolute genius. There was absolutely nothing that these awesome people haven’t thought about. I could sit here and write double this as a review, I rarely bother unless it’s well deserved, but if I shout too much, singing their praises, and too many people go off this review, there might not be a vacancy for me the next time I want to stay.…
