I stayed here for two nights wth my wife after spending two nights on Herriot Watt campus as part of a distance learning course. I paid a third of the price for the student accomodation which admittedly is a long way out of town but was nevertheless a much vastly preferable place to stay. We asked for non-smoking room but... more

Like: - central location Dislike: - awlful amenities with terrible water pressure - like a century home with dirty carpet and outdated bathroom fixtures - breakfast has mould on bread - service was below average - charged too much for what it offers more

This hotel has the best view in the whole of Edinburgh. It is located centrally to everything, tour buses, shopping centres and shops. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. We had one or two hiccups with blocked sink and dripping tap but this was attended to immediately. The price was superb and I am now planning... more

This hotel is right across the street from the Edinburgh Waverly Train station. It's only a 10 min walk to the Castle or 15 min walk to the Palace of Holyroodhouse and only a two min walk to the tour buses. If you are just planning to go site-seeing and not stay in the hotel much, this place is perfect!... more

Hotel is at the east end of Princes Street so only an five minute walk from the Waverley train station and the bus stop from Edinburgh Airport. The entrance is a doorway next to the Disney Store on Princes Street and hotel is on the first, second and third floors above the shops. There is a lift in the hotel... more

I got the worst experience where my bag was stolen from the hotel room and the hotel did nothing but to point out a framed notice that they are not responsible. It was an inside job and the hotel was in cahoots with theburglars more

Had two hours to kill before going on a conducted tour of the city. It was raininbg,m so we popped into the first place we came to,which was the Royal British Hotel. Five of us went upstairs to the restaurant which overlooked Princes Street. Food was very well presented, service was good and the prices even better. I had lasagne... more

Stayed four nights at The Royal British Hotel in Edinburgh in August 2009 (visiting from Aarhus, Denmark). The location couldn't be better. Rooms maybe somewhat neglected but the staff was very nice and helpful - I particularly remember one young female receptionist. Another great feature of the hotel is the cosy restaurant/bar. All in all, my brother and I were... more

Apart from the location there is no reason you would ever want to stay here. Even that has its drawbacks - overlooking busy Princes St menas you need earplugs or be completely blind drunk to get any sleep. They don't seems to have heard of double glazing. My room was grubby and the bed was very old and uncomfortable. It... more
