Many thanks to this guest for such a positive review of the hotel. Please note that should you require assistance with your luggage from the ground floor, there is a bell to summon one of our Porters who will be only too happy to help. Leon Kiteley General Manager

Hotel is very conveniently located in Edinburgh ( although road works going until mid 2010 are a bit of a pain) but it is very much in need of some updating. Elevator is a joke and parking isw a 10m minute walk away!!! The rooms are vey pokey and could use a good clean and the bar and dining room... more

Stayed at the Old Waverley with friends for a birthday weekend to see the sights and do a spot of shopping. It's location can not be faulted as its slap bang on the main shopping street in Edinburgh. From our room we could see the castle and Princes Street Gardens but this was slightly ruined by the extensive roadworks to... more

Every year since 1998, I've been traveling to the UK for a period of two months. Each time, I make at least two trips to Edinburgh and always stay at The Old Waverley Hotel. The location is perfect, and it's very close to Waverley Station. This summer was different. I stayed there three times, and the last two times I... more

Just got back from two nights at this hotel our room on the forth floor overlooked Princess st with lovely views of princess gardens but what a pity we couldn't see the castle from our window. Our room was small but clean the mattress was hard and pillows lumpy but after shopping and sightseeing all day we slept well and... more

The location of this hotel is great, except at the moment there are building works right outside for the new tram lines being put in Princes Street. We were a bit disappointed with our rooms (118 & 119) they were tiny and our view was a graffitti painted wall, we also had the bins right outside so were woken up... more

Many thanks for sharing your experience and I am sorry that you were disturbed by the Tram Works. Although the Tram project is set to benefit Edinburgh in the long term, there has been some inconvenience over the past few months but I am pleased to announce that works are scheduled to terminate on Princes St very soon. I stayed two nights at The Waverely after doing extensive research on line. I was flying in from Belfast (where I flew in from the US) and was traveling alone. Took a taxi to the hotel - was surprised at the tiny entrance and stairs to get to Reception. Got an actual KEY to my room (who still does this??).... more

Although I am extremely grateful to this guest for sharing her experience, It must be pointed out that the review in question is from June 2006. Since then, we have refurbished all of our bedrooms and installed LCD televisons which are situated on the walls thus addressing all the points raised. Leon Kiteley General Manager

Good location but extensive roadworks outside that will go on for a long time as they are putting in tram lines. Hotel was shabby, staff inconsistent, beds extremely uncomfortable. We had an internal room with a frosted glass window that did not open. Room had torn wallpaper. Hotel needs a massive cash input to come up to standard. would not... more
