We really like the hotel and have stayed 3 times now - there will be more stays I'm sure. Very comfortable room and tremendous location - just up the new, easy escalators from Waverley Station. Very attentive and professional staff - couldn't have done anything more to make our stay enjoyable. Only one minor issue - it would be nice... More

So many hotels could learn from the service provided by the Balmoral. If you like your hotel to be smart clean and the staff personable and extremely knowledgeable then the Balmoral it is. Set in the perfect location of Princes Street above the station the Balmoral is the one if you have the cash to splash! Not much more can... More

We won a stay in a deluxe room at this fantastic hotel and the service was amazing, however our sleep was slightly spoiled by the all pervading sound of the restaurants extractor fans. This could have spoiled a first visit to Edinburgh, but we forgave the lack of sleep because we had such a lovely time and the hotel staff... More

I stayed in the Balmoral in June for one night (business). The location was excellent, as was the hotel facilities and service. The hotel made a point of making sure everything worked, and worked well, from the check-in greeting onwards. Very impressive....

We stayed three nights at the Balmoral and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The customer service was excellent, the rooms spacious and the location is great. There were only a couple of small downsides. Firstly, the shower is a little dangerous - it is very slippery and difficult to climb into as the sides of the bath it is over are... More

We stayed here three nights. The staff were so friendly and helpful. We felt like royalty. The breakfast buffet was fantastic as was the staff. The marble bathroom was so pretty. The orchids in the lobby were beautiful. Our only concern was trying to regulate the water temperature in the shower. This is definitely the best place to stay as... More

We have stayed here twice. The first time when we married in Scotland and were fortunate enough to have our wedding reception at this beautiful hotel. On both occasions we were treated in a friendly, but professional manner. Nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were very luxurious, breakfasts delicious, spa fantastic, service of the highest standard. We were a... More

Me and my mother had afternoon tea there, just whilst she was visiting and before her train (since it's so handy for waverly station). The staff were exceedingly friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The food was exquisite, the tea was delicious and the harp set exactly the right mood - very peaceful. Thanks for a great experience !

Overall our stay at the Balmoral was very enjoyable. The staff were pleasant and helpful and the room was well appointed and comfortable. We had an excellent and beautifully cooked meal at the Number 1 restaurant. The main problem with the hotel is the Hadrian restaurant which provides the breakfast for the Balmoral. I expect when staying at a 5... More

Had booked this as a christmas present for my mother in law. We had a great experience on Sat 8th June from start to finish. The welcome was very polite and friendly, although we had arrived 30minutes earlier than expected our table was ready and it was no problem whatsoever. Helen our waitress was very friendly and made my mother... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Balmoral is a luxury hotel in the true sense of the word. With its majestic clock tower, the hotel is a traditional yet contemporary five-star property set in the very heart of Edinburgh. While many Edinburgh hotels claim to have Edinburgh's landmarks on their doorstep, few can say their doorstep is a landmark. Located on Princes Street, in Edinburgh's main shopping area and next to Waverley Station, The Balmoral is close to the leading luxury department stores and within walking distance of many Edinburgh attractions. The Balmoral offers 188 opulent suites and stylish rooms, many with views towards Edinburgh Castle and the Old Town. When it comes to fine-dining, the choice of restaurants at The Balmoral matches the mood of the moment. With attentive but non-intrusive service, guests can choose from the hotel's Michelin-starred number one fine dining restaurant with outstanding cuisine provided by Chef Jeff Bland; Hadrian's for chic and informal dining; Palm Court for traditional afternoon tea or its very own Bollinger Bar. The newly refurbished and stylish Balmoral Bar is perfect for a relaxing cocktail or traditional whisky. For the ultimate in relaxation, the Balmoral Spa is an exclusive retreat in the heart of the city offering five treatment rooms (with ESPA and SUNDARI treatments) a 15 metre swimming pool, sauna, steam room, gymnasium and exercise studio. The Balmoral is the perfect choice for a luxurious city spa break. ... more   less
