This review is about the bar; I didn't stay in the hotel or eat there. This seems to me to a be good bar to go for a drink with a group of friends you want to chat too, because it's got a good few table booths that you can fit 8-10 people around comfortably and it's not too noisy.... More

The rooms were cozy and the staff were very helpful. As far as pub food goes it was one of the best value for money meals we have ever had, really tasty. The bar/restaurant area is comforting and relaxing. I would recommend this hotel!

Can't really comment on the rooms (as didn't stay at the hotel) but my wife and I had a three course meal at the restaurant on a Sunday afternoon and we were treated to some really splendid cuisine and excellent service. The fact that it was a Groupon deal did not affect the portions served in any way and I... More

Photos on their website, extremely misleading. The bedroom we had was NOTHING like the one shown on website. Bathroom DISGUSTING, tiles missing, showerhead filthy, mould in the grout around the bath/area. In the bedroom, one curtain hanging off the curtain rail, paint on the curtain, window sill warped and in need of replacement. Breakfast was a continental JOKE, if you... More

Told at time booking of public car-park behind hotel - not true - on street metered parking. Room not cleaned properly - chocolate bar wrapper under bed - carpets not hoovered - despite complaint was still there when we left two days later.!. No plug for sink -suggested we use bath to wash in instead - still had not found... More

During the Festival month of August it is difficult to find a good hotel under 200 GBP per Night, so with 135 GBP (including Breakfast) The Meadows seemed to be an attractive place to stay. Most of the staff was friendly and helpful (booking a taxi, knocking on the door to wake us), and the location is OK; it is... More

We went for dinner following a fantastic day at the Edinburgh Festival only to have the worst meal ever!!!!!!!!! To start with half the items on the menu were "off" which didn't leave much of a choice. There were no napkins on the table, I had to ask for water 3 times and the bottle of wine we ordered had... We also thought the photos looked decent, but we had a rather shabby room and the bathroom too. Bed was comfortable, but the room was cold, our TV remote didn't work, and breakfast was worth missing. We booked during the Edinburgh Fringe so it was rather expensive, definitely NOT value for money.

The hotel is reasonably close to the city centre and appears to be a converted factory site or something. The entrance is the bar/pub from which a staircase goes up to the first floor where the rooms are. At night you need to make your way through the tables. There is no lift to help you with the luggage. The... More

Chose this restaurant to meet friends on holiday from Australia. Viewed website and it looked a really nice bar. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! what a shock when we arrived to a dingy, dark bar with most of the light bulbs missing - in all 9! I wanted to run out but had already made the arrangements so had to run with it.
