Overall, the stay was pleasant and the staff let me check in early at 11:00 am. I found the bar and restaurant staff friendly. The rooms were clean and trendy yet a bit "tired" from over ten years of hotel guests. I understood that the hotel will go through some renovations in the next month before the Edinburgh festival. The... more

Rick's is a friendly, bustling small hotel in a great City Centre location, however it's four star rating is misleading. I'm sure it lived up to the hype when it first opened, but not now. Our bedroom certainly wasn't 'super chic': light in bathroom not working; chipped floor tiles; dirty marks on carpets; dirty footprints on hall tiles; holes in... more

Have been eating and drinking (from breakfast to late nights) in Ricks for years on our annual trips to the Fringe, but this was first out-of-season stay. Service, from welcome throughout, was superb - friendly, v v helpful and cheerful. Food excellent as ever. From late arrival dinner on Friday night to Sunday bellini breakfast. Room was excellent. Cool, as... more

New Year's Eve is a special occasion to us and in what better way to celebrate the start off a New Year than spending it at the home of Hogmanay, Edinburgh. Its a must on the "things to do list" before the age of 50. On a FLYBE flight , we stumbled across the offerings at the Boutique Hotel of... more

Having had breakfast at Ricks Hotel a couple of years ago, I was determined to stay there on my next trip to Edinburgh. I decided to take my other half to Edinburgh for his birthday this year and didn't even consider any other hotel until I checked out the reviews on this site and was quite horrified. However, given that... more

Went overthere for the birthday of a friend !! Had a blast very nice & friendly staff. Quit rooms didn't hear any sirens and Edinburg is a big town just the bottletruck for about 1 minute !! But then breakfast is served till 12.00 so after a night on the town there is plenty of time to have a lie... more

We hadn't stepped foot in the door before so it was a bit of a risk when we chose Ricks as the venue for a special 40th birthday celebration. There were 16 of us in total. We weren't disappointed. The first thing that strikes you when you walk through the door is the ambience. It's trendy, cool and laid back... more

Our recent stay at Rick's was highly anticipated, but sorely disappointing. After booking this "boutique hotel" based on TripAdvisor and Mr. and Mrs. Smith reviews, we thought this would be a luxurious departure from the big chain hotels normally found in cities. Rick's location is unsurpassed as it sits on Frederick Street (at the corner of Frederick and Thistle) between... more

As a regualr user of Ricks over the last three years, I have noticed the standards both in service and the quality of the rooms going down over the last year. My most recent visit was for two nights during the festival Aug08. I am accepting of the noise mentioned in so many of the other threads but can live... more

Ok, so we didn't listen to the advice given to us from TripAdvisor! Sorry! We went ahead anyway, ignoring the advice about the loud rubbish trucks and the dishes from the back door etc etc. We should've listened! We were woken up almost every 10/20 minutes from approx. 07:00am, with people emptying bins, bucket lorries, deliveries for the pub directly... more
