We thoroughly enjoyed our four-night stay. We had a large en-suite room (love those high ceilings!), nicely decorated and comfortable. A nice comfortable guest house about 2kms out of the city. Buses are quite convenient to the city centre (tip for families of 5 - catching a cab is only a quid more and dropped you to the door). We both really liked the Balmoral – with a beautiful breakfast room with all those old wooden chairs – apparently from Saint Giles’ Cathedral (!) - pretty plates on a big old wooden dresser and old radios – it definitely had atmosphere. My girlfriend and I drove all the way from Aberdeen (3 hours) in an insanely busy Edinburgh due to the Fringe festival only to find out that the owner was "terribly sorry, there has been a mistake". Stayed for 2 nights in this 3 story Victorian guest house, stylishly furnished and decorated with clean carpets. Our 2 top floor rooms were not on suite but had a useful sink.
