I booked the Lantern Guest House because it was only 50 pounds per night, we could come and go without checking in, no curfew, and our own private bathroom. I also liked that it was near a big bus interchange because I was traveling without a car. I was nervous because I thought it would be a bit of a... more

This was one of the cosiest hotel rooms I have ever stayed in. It seemed a pity that we used this room as a base and only slept there. The ameneties were plush and the room was well decorated. It was a 5min stroll from the station and about a 2min walk from the city centre (theatre end). The staff... more

The golden question? Would I stay again at Windsor House (sister of Lantern House) again? Everytime. It suits me down to the ground. I'd rather eat out. The no breakfast thing really helps me. I don't want a traditional breakfast. There are loads of places around here and further afield. You are only 5 mins walk from Waverley and the... more

We stayed at Lantern Guest House for one night before departing on a tour of the highlands in the morning. The location was great, only a few minutes walk from the city centre and we were able to park easily nearby. We checked in at reception and our room was in another house they owned down the street. Everything was... more

Stayed at the Lantern House with a friend in december 2008, and we found the place to exceed all our expectations. As young travellers on a tight budget we're quite used to lower our expectations when it comes to hotels/hostels, but this was definitely a pleasant surprise! The Lantern House is nicely decorated, and although there is no breakfast included,... more

I have just returned from a weekend in Edinburgh staying with two friends at Windsor House. I tried booking Lantern house because of the great reviews on tripadvisr but there were no rooms available so booked Windsor House (sister B+B, owned by same people a few yards down the street) I assumed the standard would be the same but was... more

We stayed at lantern guest house for a night and found it to be excellent. The room was clean, comfortable and cosy. It was well equipped and modern but still with a traditional feel. The hotel was very central as it was only a short walk from Waverly station. Very good value for money and we would not hesitate to... more

After researching the net and reading reviews my friend and I chose this guesthouse for our 2-day trip in Edinburgh in May'08. We had a great experience - the location is excellent, close to the city centre yet quiet; room was quite spacious (compared to other places we stayed at in Scotland), bathroom – clean and sufficient, hot water at... more
