Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very poor service that could have been avoided with better planning of staffing levels and a better attitude of senior staff. A very disappointing visit for a special occasion. Some great service from junior staff unfortunately didn't make up for the awful service from senior staff.

Comfortable well appointed room. With all amenities. Surroundings and garden are well cared for and nice to walk in. Enjoyed a visit to the hens. Excellent staff who are well trained and efficient. We would definable visit again.

What an amazing peaceful, relaxing location, on the outskirts of St Andrews. Wonderful staff always around when you need them, making you feel at home. Great use of local produce and a well established kitchen garden, producing beautiful fresh ingredients for a varied menu. The woodland suites are out of this world, a must visit experience, we will definitely be back!

The Rufflets is a beautiful and quaint country hotel. The staff were lovely and our room was clean. Unfortunately we didn’t get to experience the outdoors as the weather wasn’t in our favour. Overall the room was spacious, cosy and had everything we needed but we also found the decor tired. The bathroom however was a welcomed modern surprise with a huge bath! Breakfast was delicious but we ate our evening meal in the bar. Service was very slow and atmosphere lacking. Was also draughty even though fire on but most likely due to time of year. Dessert menu wasn’t great but main bar menu had plenty options. Drinks menu plentiful! Overall, a pleasant stay and a change of scenery! Would love to return next time with our dog!

Having visited previously on business, it was a real pleasure to return to celebrate our anniversary - we were not disappointed. Standards are high and all the staff friendly and welcoming. The food at breakfast lunch and dinner was freshly made and of a high standard.

Excellent hotel in a quiet location just outside St Andrews. Lovely gardens. This is a high quality experience. Dining menu very high standard and presentation excellent. Staff all very attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay and look forward to returning at some point.

It was the food that attracted us to Rufflets and we were not disappointed. The fine dining restaurant offers a short but interesting fixed price menu (or there is also a bar menu) and we were not disappointed, with desserts showing particular skills. Breakfast was also impressive in both choice and quality; and you can even have a filled roll if that takes your fancy. Our bedroom (35) was spacious, very comfortable and included a large modern bathroom with bath and separate shower cubicle. Public rooms invite relaxation and we enjoyed a walk round the gardens, despite the earliness of the season.
