I toyed with four or five hotels before settling on the Thistle (sometimes this is the downside of the internet - it's easy to get put off by one person's isolated or subjective experience). It was to be a short midweek stay (arriving at 2230, leaving after breakfast) and it more than provided me with what I needed - a... more

I'm actually sitting in the hotel room writing this review connected to the wireless internet (not free unless you have a BT Openzone account). My room (on the 8th floor) must have been very recently refurbished as it bears no resemblence to even the pictures on the hotel's own website, let alone some of the other reviews here. Bright, modern... more

Just back from a one night stay, booked via Lastminute. The hotel is centrally located, initial impression was good and the staff on the desk were really friendly and helpful. The hotel is easy to find and the room was clean, large and well equipped. The hotel pool area was nice and quiet with a jacuzzi (hot!), pleasant sauna and... more

Good location. Room Ok, bed and bit hard and pillows foam and uncomfortable. But oh the noise on a Saturday night. Hotel has wedding parties and the noise from the disco travels up to at least the 4th floor. Then of course there's the shouting and door banging until after 2 am as the party goers come to bed. Avoid... more

Hotel is a bit 'tired' in places but this was more than compensated by friendly, helfpul staff and excellent breakfast buffet - one of the best I have had. However the mattress I slept on should have been condemned - can't remember when I last saw a mattress with sprung springs!! Left appropriate feedback, mentioned it to our travel rep... more

Stayed here for 2 nights (Fri & Sat) for a girls weekend. Spacious room & very clean with comfy beds. Great location near the centre but not too close to hear all the noise from the pubs and bars - although the road traffic noise was a bit loud for us (on first floor) Service was great - from the... more

Stayed for one night in mid-April 2008. Room was larger than expected with a large, comfortable and clean bed. Rather old-fashioned TV with a limited choice of TV channels. Smallish but more than adequate bathroom. Didn't stay for breakfast. Hotel is probably getting close to a refurbishment though. Only main concern was the extractor fan in the bathroom, which was... more

This hotel has a good location but is now very rundown. Our room was very very dirty as was the bathroom and the heating didn't work nor did the hairdryer and this was in february ! The top covers on the bed were filthy . Breakfast is ok just if you are a meat eater but no choice for vegetarians... more

This hotel is great value for your money. It is quite cheap (at least if you book it on the Internet) but it has a great service and the location is perfect. The rooms were not much for the eye, but they were spacious and cleany. The staff was really polite and did everything you asked for. They even drove... more
