I've stayed at three of the four hotels in this complex, and although all have been refurbished on the outside, the interiors aren't seen until it's too late. There are no smoking rooms, which is fine if you don't smoke. If you do, then it's hypothermia time as you stand outside in the howling winter gales, a plot to rid... more

Grounds and views - perfect. Hotel - tired and need of work - clinical feel Food - alright and not expensive (drink prices expensive but no more than you expect in a hotel but rip you off on soft drinks) Price - overpriced - £125 a night for a family room b&b or £95 room only - Beds - ok... more

Lovely location, opposite the train station, the facilities were outstanding, the hotel was clean, the food excellent and the staff could not be more helpful. Thoroughly recommend this hotel for a restful vacation. We also used the Spa facilities which were well run. more

I stayed in the Highland Hotel for 3 nights with my two children in April 08. The check in system was fine and we found our room failry easily. I would say the room only just meets 4 star. It is failry basic but it was clean and warm. The breakfast room / restaurant lived up to it's 4 stars... more

As someone who stays in hotels about 80 nights a year I thought I had seen it all. This was without doubt the worst £ for £ value I have come across for quite some time. I booked direct via the Macdonald web site having used them before I paid £90 for one night's b&b in the hope of getting... more

We have recently stayed at this hotel which was pleasant but overpriced, we decided to book the italian restaurant giovanis which was very poor. The food was tasteless and bland with small portions. The resort accommodation was okay but again overpriced for the standard of rooms. We ended up eating in the town at the local indian restaurant which was... more

We stayed with a group on a visit to ski at Cairngorm mountain and from that point of view it's reasonably convenient for the slopes (which are about 20 mins away by bus/car in normal circumstances) and the town centre which is 5 minutes walk. There is one reception which covers a number of hotel buildings which are spread out... more

Stayed at Highland Hotel- Shabby rooms, poor service in the restaurant, needs a good clean and facelift. I know star ratings are based on facilities but you expect a level of quality in a four-star hotel that this seriously fell short of. I've stayed in travel lodges of better quality and service. Ate at Giovanni's Ristorante- small portions, average quality,... more

Decided to eat there after visting the shop, four adults and two children. After discovering that there was no soup we decided to opt for sandwiches, what a dreadful idea! After waiting for ages whilst staff bustled around someone eventually asked us what we wanted and then went off to find the 'chef'. We told the chef what we wanted,... more
