On arrival (late afternoon) the allocated room had not been cleaned/made up since the previous guest's departure. The staff member apologised and removed the linen from the bed. Thankfully, being a twin room, the second bed was made up with clean linen and duvet. The carpet had not been vacuumed.
A patch on the ceiling (approx. 18" x 1') - suspected to have been as a result of an earlier water leak - was edged with black mildew.
Worse was to come in the shower-room/toilet. Ragged wall covering along the skirting board was nothing compared to the mildew that was attached. The corner of the room adjacent to the lavatory was affected by black mildew and the shower corner, beside the shower door, similarly filthy. The shower had clearly not been cleaned with human hair and black specks (Heaven only knows what..) on the shower floor. The shower head - an excellent source for Leigionnaire's Disease - looked pretty suspicious as regards cleanliness.
