I lived in Wick a long time ago and when I decided to go back to show my son where I grew up I wasn't sure the hotels would be up to much - but the reviews of Mackays were pretty good, so my son and I stayed for two nights at the start of August. We had a huge... more
We stayed here for 1 night to attend a friends wedding in Wick. We arrived at 11am after a 5 hour drive from Edinburgh not expecting our room to be ready. After a very friendly welcome & complimentary coffee they kindly prepared a room for us straight away. The Hotel appears to have been modernised with flat screen TV's in... more
Mackays was a superb hotel, with awesome food, great staff and lovely rooms that were furnished with great taste. A wonderful atmosphere was provided at dinner, with great choices and a full wine list. Breakfast was very good too! Highly recommended! more
Wonderful receptionist who was extremely helpful and personable (Jennifer). Great bunch of staff who were freindly and professional. The owner was the perfect host who ensured that his customers were being looked after. Food was brilliant and we would have scored top but for the rooms needing a little attention (nothing of major concern though). We would definately stay here... more
My wife and I stayed there and found the rooms comfortable and clean . The hospitality was some of the best we have experienced .. You must have a cocktail in the small lounge . The atmosphere was wonderful kinda reminded us of the states in the late fourties . We felt like Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra could come... more
We stayed here for 2 nights in August. There is a lack of good hotels in Caithness and our first choice was full but MacKays proved excellent. The staff were very friendly, room was nice with view over the river. What really made the hotel for us though was the quality of the food. Breakfast had a help yourself buffet... more
This hotel has got better and has a much lighter and more modern 'look' (though it IS a very old buidling) since I last stayed there and is definitely the only place to stay in Wick or nearby. Rooms are comfortable and the food is excellent. Book for the Bistro as it gets full. Locals all eat here, not just... more
As the title above says I find it very hard to fault this hotel. For two nights in August I stayed at Mckays Hotel and was pleasantly surprised with the hotel and the service offered. The hotel is obviously run by professionals who take pride in their hotel. The Manager was helpful and courtesy without being patronising. My bedroom, although... more
We stayed at this hotel for one night before crossing to the Orkneys and found it a really pleasant place to stay. The room was clean and comfortable and nicely furnished. Useful to have wi-fi in the room too. The Bistro was very busy, so be sure to book a table when you arrive, as tables were filled as soon... more
