We stayed at the Balavil Hotel for 2 nights, on a trip up north, specifically to see the Red Pandas and recently installed Polar Bear, Mercedes, along the road 5 or so miles at the Highland Wildlife Park in Kincraig. What a lovely time we had, and at an excellent value-for-money price, too. The hotel was so cosy, warm and... more

Hotel was quiet, clean and with friendly staff. Had a peaceful time. Food was great, and the portions was excellent - a pleasant surprise actually. Service was good and overall good value for money more

We got a great deal for Dinner Bed & Breakfast however I`m not sure I would be so complimentary if I had to pay full price. The staff were friendly enough, particularly the girl at reception. The room was a decent size, old fashioned, but had everything we needed. The downside to the hotel is the apparent lack of ability... more

the location was lovely and made exploring the area very easy. room was clean and tidy and warm. pool and sauna were acceptable but the showers would have scalded a small child. dinner was excellent and staff were friendly and attentive. breakfast was reheated and greasy, sausages just fell apart and it tasted really cheap. more

This hotel is in a great location, friendly staff and a nice bar with occasional Scottish music. Our double room was spacious with a clean bathroom. The view was not great but we were hardly in the room what with the breathtaking scenery outside. We had an awful dining experience one night, the fish was not cooked and the rice pudding was almost... more

We arrived as a group of 21 hillwalkers. Scenery around about is breathtaking, the hotel was very reasonably priced, the food was lovely (we had not one complaint from any of our group). The rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff warm, friendly and helpful. The pool is small but adequate, unless you're training for the olympics and the... more

Stopped at the Balavil for just one night. Check in was very swift and staff very friendly. Room was a little on the small side but clean. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. Plenty to do in the local area. We ate down the road at a really busy pub/hotel (I don't remember the name, but the food was really reasonable).... more

I very nearly did not stay at this hotel due to some of the negative reviews. On arrival I was pleasantly surprised and the manager was very helpful. The first problem however, was that the boiler in the new block where the family rooms and the swimming pool was located, was broken. There was an electric heater in our room... more

i would usually avoid 2* hotels, but trip advisor seemed positive, so i called to book. the foreign operator was polite and efficient. we arrived after 9pm, friday 13 feb 09, and after parking on the street, made our way in to the hotel. our initial impression was it hasn't been redecorated in ages (old-fashioned), but it isn't worn. the... more

We booked this hotel because it was cheap and it was in the area we wanted to stay in. We stayed for 2 nights. We had a four course dinner the first evening (£10!) but you get what you pay for, it was traditional stodge but it did fill you up. We had a few drinks in the friendly bar... more
