This Hotel was not too far from the ferry terminal from Aberdeen. I arrived early in the morning and was able to check in immediately. I appreciate this may not always be possible but Keith and Co were really helpful. I hadn't realised how long the mainland was, but the Spiggie is in a good location. Breakfasts were brilliant ~... The location is very convenient for all the sights in the south of the islands. It is only a 20 minute walk to the nearest beach which is glorious. My room as very comfortable, with good storage space, TV, hairdryer, etc. There is also free speedy wifi. The shower is one of best I’ve ever had on my travels! The... More

We ate alone in the pleasant dining room and could not understand it. The bar was full but there was no-one in the restaurant. The food was good local produce and the chef was clearly talented producing good lamb and fish dishes. We ate pretty well and enjoyed the experience. We were there at the start of September so perhaps... More

A table of 5 enjoyed a well cooked and substantial Sunday lunch in the bay window overlooking a beautiful bay - plemty of vegetables and tasty meals for all ages from 12 - 80 we all enjoyed our food.. Very quiet on a late September Sunday so a little lacking in atmosphere.

Keith, the proprieter/chef, and his staff made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. We spent the day of arrival exploring the wonderful natural beauty of the Shetland Islands and were arriving at the Spiggie Hotel later than we expected. Keith was kind enough to call my mobile to check on our arrival and he kept the kitchen open... More

We just came in to the Spiggie Hotel for a lunch break and when we sat down, we had to wait for at least 20 minutes for a waiter to serve us. When we got served, we waited for half an hour for someone to give out plates. While eating, we noticed that we were the only ones in the... More

Thanks for your review and sorry your experience wasn't better. I have written to you and requested some more details as I would like to be able to understand why you were left so long when nobody else was in the dining room. Generally, we will only operate an advance bookings system for the dining room in the 'out of... More

What an amazing place - warm welcome and great food. The views are spectacular and the room we had was extremely comfortable and well equipped. The staff were very helpful and courteous and this made a great base from which to explore the amazing scenery which is in abundance in Shetland. Favourite moment was sitting on the rocks by Spiggie... More

My husband and I just completed a perfectly marvelous stay at Spiggie. It's a charming, yet sophisticated hotel in a scenic location. The 1870s building has been handsomely restored, achieving just the right balance of bygone character and modern comfort. Meals served in the attractive dining room are outstanding -- fresh, local ingredients, interesting menu. And the bar, a neighborhood... More

The positives first, the chef seems to take justifiable pride in what he is doing. The food is pricier the other places where we dined, but the evening dishes we had ranged from fairly good to great. All this was completely undermined by the hotel side of things - proper cleaning was definitely not on the menu. There were tissues... More

Thank you for your feedback and the fact that you got something positive from your unfortunate experience. Obviously, the comments on our housekeeping and our response are extremely disappointing. I have already written to you personally, and the person responsible also apologised in person. I fully investigated how it came about the the housekeeping was not finished in your room... More
