I think the review by UggaBugga should be taken with a pinch of salt. I have eaten here, on my last 3 visits to Islay. The food has always been excellent. I suspect that he turned up on spec, in a quiet period (to be expected in March, the month of his visit). In the current financial climate, many smaller... more

I stayed at the Ballygrant Inn on a holiday to Islay last week. Fabulous would be the best way to describe the experience! I travelled with my uncle and aunt from India we all agree that this holiday is definitely one we remember and talk about for a long time. From the time i was making reservations for travel and... more

Spent a great couple of days with David Graham and his son Ewan (who presides over an astonishing collection of malt whiskies) at their friendly and cosy hotel in Islay. We and our two dogs were very well looked after and David's cooking made use of great local produce and was both delicious and reasonably priced. I would not hesitate... more

Each year I take a party of 19 to Islay and for the last 3 years we have had our farewell dinner in the Ballygrant Inn owned by David Graham. The food is superb, everyone enjoys their dishes, the service is 1st class. I do not believe we could ask for better anywhere. The opinion of everyone in my party... more

I stayed for two nights on a motorbike trip on my first trip to Islay. The pub has 3 rooms with a shared (bathroom being upgraded at present) bathroom adequate, shower in room. The food in the friendly bar is excellent-venison and Islay lamb chops mmmm-some cyclists had scallops ,curry and really enjoyed .The resident cat(thinks its a dog and the collie... more

I dropped on the Inn by accident with a view to achieving a lifetimes ambition to visit Islay. It did not disappoint and I am a very experienced world wide traveller. The host David has created a sense of comfort and homeliness with excellent food accompanied by local ales (if you so choose) so that it is easy to slip... more

Looks like a hotel but on the inside it's a converted house with a radio playing in the kitchen and one man who seems to do everything on his own. We could hear a microwave in the kitchen and it seems that people are booked in 2 at a time. Hence the dining room is empty with no atmosphere. The... more

A lone female cyclist looking for a nice, welcoming, small hotel with single room availability, reasonable priced and bar/restaurant that I would not feel uncomfortable being in without company. The Ballygrant was everything I was looking for & more. After a long day cycling and late arrival (just before 9pm), the staff were very welcoming & happy to provide me... more

There are good reasons for good rating Bellygrant Inn: very nice fellows, original fresh made scottish food, best stuffed bar, good accomodation and nice surrounding. All in all we felt very familiar, appreciate(d) it! more

I stayed at Ballygrant almost a year ago and it's still the trip I talk most about. We were only there for 2 days but Ruby made us feel so welcome and we really had a wonderful time while we were there. Aside from the amazing meals, the homebaking, the beautiful local ales and whiskies we were treated to home... more
