We checked into Kilmuir House after arriving on the afternoon ferry in Armadale, and stopping for dinner in Portree (on the advice of our hostess). Since we had been on Skye before, we didn't take time to stop anywhere on the way.

Kilmuir House was an unexpected pleasure. It's one of those old houses you see sitting tall on the green slopes of western Skye. Sally who runs it is a ball of energy and very kind, making tea as soon as you get in. Unlike so many places I stayed in the UK, the rooms in Kilmuir House were spacious--the bedroom, the shared bathroom, and the beautiful front common room available to guests. Sally loves antiques and unusual things, and maintains a good library of Skye-related books. Her decorating was both comfortable and elegant. The bathroom was warmly heated. The breakfast was great! All in all, I loved Kilmuir House. more
