We stopped in Donegal after a long day's driving in rural Ireland and just needed a place to stay. The first hotel we went to was fully booked so we stopped at The Abbey next. They had a decent room price with breakfast included, so we stayed. The room we were given was a long trek down a very interesting... more

Having spent 4 nights was just about enough. The first room we were given looked as through it had,nt been cleaned, the carpet was very badly stained, the bathroom sink was cracked, holes in the net curtains and facing a brick wall and a horrible stale smell. My husband told them we were not happy with the room and we... more

Our trip to the Abbey was lovely. The decor is a little dated but this is more than made up for as the rooms are still cosy and the location is ideal. The staff are very welcoming and friendly. I more

Well I stayed here on 29th August 2009 for one night whilst over on a fishing trip. At first glance (during the day) the hotel seemed fine, being ideally located right in the centre of the town and having an older but clean feel about it. The room was a bit disappointing being somewhat dated and having a view of... more

Only stayed there one night. Room was spacious and clean but the shower was horrendous could not get a comfortable temperature in which to have a shower -water was either freezing or boiling hot. My partner even tried but abandoned ,after 20 minutes ,any attempt to have a shower. Breakfast was good, found all the staff fairly approachable & friendly... more

This hotel is well overpriced for what they offer. Very basic rooms with lukewarm water for an evening shower. But the staff really put this place to shame. I have no idea where the myth of the "Donegal" welcome came from after this experience. From the reception staff to the woman running the breakfast in the morning, you felt as... more

This nice hotel is the heart of Donegal town and it's like being in the centre of the world. The hotel is indeed in front of the Diamond, the central square of Donegal, and opposite the bus stop, which also is the central bus station. It is quite a big hotel which also has a pub and a fine restaurant... more
