We stayed at the Cobblestones not expecting it to be anything but basic- in fact it was dreadful. We were greeted by a receptionist who demanded cash up front- no cards accepted. The whole place stank of stale grease from the pizza place next door, and it was dirty, dark and grim.

Our private room was big and bright, but grimy round the edges. Our sheets were at least clean, but the bed was a ramshackle, uncomfortable nightmare. The decor of the room was set off well by a rusting garden chair in the corner.

The windows didn't shut properly, so it was noisy and would have been freezing in winter. In fact, it was pretty cold in summer. The bathroom next door was filthy and it made me feel sick to use it.

In short- you would be mad to stay here. It was terrible value (£50 a night for a private room!) and filthy. The only one small bonus was that it was in the centre of town. But that was very small consolation when you consider everything elseQ Don't do it!

The Cobblestone hostel in the temple bar region was an experience all on its own, which i would classify as terrible.

however, i will start with a positive(the only one at that). this was the location (you are very central to the main tourist attraction and the pubs on temple bar). the location allows easy walking distance to the guinness store, jameson distillery and many of the local stops for the bus tours. which was great!

now moving on to the many negatives. Firstly our welcome was awful. as our flight landed into dublin at 11pm i decided 10 days prior to arriving to notify the hostel that we would be late and wondered what the policy for this would be. i got a pleasant email back saying that it was good of me to let them know and somebody would be on the main desk for our arrival and not to worry (problem solved you think). So you can imagine our frustration when we arrived at the hostel at 11.45 (due to passport control) and it was all locked up with nobody on...
