Good if you travel for a "partyweekend" with friends, Qauy Street is very lively, great pubs with live music and a good fish-and-chips restaurant nearby, service is very good, friendly staff, breakfast included more

ok, being in center of town is handy but dont stay there if you want a good nights sleep. Especially on street side. the bars downstairs are very noisy with people outside drinking and yelling till 4am. Hostels are generally noisy but they could do something with the doors so they dont close ie slam so loudly every 2 mins... more

My husband and I (early 30s) stayed in a tiny private ensuite room at this hostel in May 2009. We really liked the location of the hostel - right in the heart of the pedestrian walkway that runs through the main part of town. It is surrounded by restaurants and bars and the area is lively. We also enjoyed the... more

The staff we're pleasant apart from 1 female receptionist who needs a lesson in customer service. Ignorant, unpleasant and negative are just a few words to describe her. The accommodation was as expected, however bed sheets were stained, the shower was disgusting and the room temperatures are a disaster. We got woke on our second morning at 7.30am to the... more

I stayed the at the Barnacles Quay Street House for two nights in September and really enjoyed my stay there. The staff were excellent. They helped me organize my sightseeing and set me up with a nice night out for my birthday. The rooms were standard. I was sharing a room with 15 other people and had no issues with... more

No parking within 3 streets so you've to carry your bags. Booked a double room-the most expensive hostel we stayed in in all of Ireland-bed was awful-the mattress was like old car springs in a cotton sack, and the base was no better. The bathroom was adequate. The building is old and a rabbit warren, and noisy when everyone comes... more

Stayed here in January. We had read in Let's Go that Barnacles was in a fantastic location and was great value so despite not having stayed in hostels for many years we decided to give it a try. The location is unbeatable-right in the centre of the pedestrian area. We were given a great little room with our own bathroom... more

I was in Ireland in November 2006, and stayed for 4 night at Barnacles in Galway. I must say I was really pleased with installation and the cleaness of the place. Staff was really gentle and helpful. To be honnest, I prefered my stay at Barnacles Galway, then the one in Dublin. The hostel is really well situated in the... more

We stayed for one night in September at this hostel and were initially blown away by the location. Reading that it's right in the action is one thing, but actually being there is another! We had an ensuite double, so we felt very private. The bed was actually quite comfortable (especially for a hostel) and the bathroom was fine -... more

First of all my friend and I stayed at the Barnacles hostel in Dublin before we came to Galway. The One in Dublin was far less nice-- that may have been due to the fact that we were incredibly hung over and arrived about 3 hours before we could check into the hostel so we had to walk around trying... more
