I know we are in the minority, but we had a pretty rotten time at Danville House in June of 2003. It was our third trip to Ireland, but our first time in Kilkenny. We were we were pretty excited about Danville House, having read about it in Alastair Sawday's "Special Places to Stay" book. Unfortunately for us, it didn't live up to our expectations.

First of all, all the other guests were staying upstairs, while our room was on the first floor, right off the main hallway, so we heard every bit of commotion during our stay. The room itself was just disgusting. It was dark, dreary, and SMELLY. The damp, musty stench was so strong that we had to sleep with the window open all night. The bed was wedged in the room and we had to climb into it from the foot because there was no room on the sides. The bathroom was the worst we've ever had in all our B & Bs from all three trips.
