I'm so happy to be the first to review Carragh House. I blew into Castlebar without a clue as to where to stay. The tourist office was closed, but I got a recommendation from a local in a nearby coffee shop. Carragh House was within walking distance of where I had street parked, and when I rang the bell, I was greeted by Des Corcoran's open, smiling face. He was the soul of hospitality and helpful advice. He gave me excellent directions as to how to navigate the streets from where I had parked. Later he gave me recommendations for the best local pubs and restaurants and other attractions. Plus a map to the town.
My room and bath were spacious, spotless and beautifully decorated. The building is modern, but retains the old-world charm that I look for when I travel overseas. There is easy access to a supermarket, pharmacy and ATM nearby, all close to the city center. There is off-street parking, which I value highly since most towns in Ireland now require pay-and-display parking...
