Came for a meal in the restaurant during the day because there were vegan options on the menu. I opted for the cauliflower and curry burger. It sounded interesting and I imagined something like a fresh cauliflower steak and a lovely creamy curry sauce.. Unfortunately the reality was quite different. The cauliflower had been deep fried before in some light batter. The inside was a mush of cauliflower and I couldn’t taste any curry seasoning at all. The burger was dry except for some chutney which was its saving grace. It was served with limp spinach leaves and a few fries and was priced at €18!!! Way over priced for what was delivered. A asked if they had any vegan mayo of the fries .. they didn’t and it also asked for a vegan Irish coffee .. not possible. Im wondering when it will dawn on people that we vegans like a FULL vegan dining experience the same as any other non vegan person.. Staff were friendly although they delivered us bread half way through our main food instead of before. And with butter!! (No thought given to being vegan- and wonder if they would have been so laid back if it were the fact I was allergic to dairy) Not impressed unlikely to recommend or return

We decided to visit family in the Mayo area so we decided to stay at The Ellison. We were told by a few friends that it is a fabulous hotel and they weren’t wrong. We checked in and we were given room 202. It was close to the lift as requested due to my mobility problems. The room was spacious and fresh with everything we needed for our stay. And the bathroom actually had a bath, heaven! Parking was both in the hotel car park and in a multi-storey car Park with plenty of disabled spots available. We did not have time to eat in the hotel however just across the road from the hotel you will find plenty of places to eat in our take out. Hotel staff were both friendly and professional. A fabulous hotel, we will most certainly be back.

Dear Doyler Dub, Firstly, thanks for taking the time to write such a thorough review. The team work hard to ensure all room requirements are met - and this is always easier once we know in advance, so thanks for letting us know beforehand. I agree the rooms are lovely and spacious, and as they have all been recently refurbished, they are modern and comfortable too. I'm pleased you made good use of the the multi-storey car park. It's great to have a sheltered walk form car to reception - (not that it ever rains in Mayo!). Thanks for complimenting the staff, everyone works hard to give guests a great stay, and it's lovely to pass on kind reviews like yours. We'll need to welcome you back in the new year so you can try our restaurant. We have a fantastic range of dishes, and all the food is fresh and flavoursome. It's definitely worth a spin back west for. Until then, Best regards,

We stayed at the Ellison last weekend as went over to Castlebar to see Christy Moore, we arrived before lunchtime, we had 2 suites booked and the the girls on reception couldn't have been more friendly, they said one room was ready so we could get in early to drop our bags. They also arranged a taxi for us to the airport on the Sunday and booked us in for breakfast. The hotel itself is lovely and our suites were bright and spacious, there were robes and slippers in both rooms, we had a king size bed and a single bed in each room along with a sofa and a mini kitchen. There is free water in the room, tea and coffee making facilities and free biscuits. The bathroom had a range of toiletries too. The hotel is in a brilliant location and is right behind the Royal Theatre, we heard that there was a walkway between the hotels but we didn't use this. Breakfast in the morning was lovely it was a help yourself buffet and the food was of a really good quality. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back again if we were ever in Castlebar.

Dear T and K McCormack, Many thanks for taking the time to leave us such a detailed (and excellent!) review. We I'm glad you found the reception team to be friendly – they are such an asset to the hotel. I’m glad you were able to make use of an early check in. It can be the luck of the draw – but I’m glad fortune favoured you. Thanks for mentioning all the perks of our suites. I agree they are lovely and bright and spacious. The robes and slippers make it all a bit more special, and the seating areas are great to unwind after a busy day shopping, visiting, or enjoying a show at the TF. I agree the breakfast here is wonderful, the banana bread is the best I’ve ever tasted. I’ll pass your feedback to Chef. Thanks again for the lovely review. We hope to welcome you another time.

This is very much our go to hotel when visiting Castlbar. It is centrally located and it is an easy commute to Westport from here. The Reception staff were extremely welcoming and informative upon our arrival. Our room was spaceous and exceptionally clean and bright. Everything that one could possibly require was provided in the room. The Dining Room staff were equally attentive and pleasant. The food is well presented, tasty and nourishing. Our only regret is that we had not booked in for an extra night's stay. However this is easy remedied as it encourages us to make a return in the not too distant future. This hotel is well worth a visit.

Dear Gerard C, Many thanks for taking the time to review us. I'm glad you found the reception team to be welcoming and informative - I agree they are a fantastic asset to the hotel. The rooms have all been recently refurbished, which is why they are so bright and spacious - the beds are also super comfortable. And the cleanliness is down to the dedicated housekeeping team - I'll be sure to mention this to the Housekeeping Manager. Thanks also for highlighting the restaurant team - I agree they are excellent. I'm delighted to read your only complaint was too short a visit - we look forward to you putting this right in the new year! Until then, thanks again for the lovely review.

A group of 40 people landed on ANNA at the Ellison and within five minutes, all had their keys, which were placed alphabetically on the counter. Dinner was served hot and delicious. No choice for desert, tho' no-one seemed to mind. Traffic could be heard-couldn't be helped. All staff serving, reception and room service were really friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent and once again, the hot buffet was well stocked. There was another large group in at the same time, yet no delays. THANK YOU to all the staff for an enjoyable evening. We would certainly consider another stay here if in the vicinity.

Recently stayed just for the one night for business and overall had a good experience. The Pros: Felicity (I think!) was excellent on reception, very welcoming and friendly. Having spent 17 years working as a manager in the hospitality industry she is certainly one of the best that I have come across so kudos to her 😊 My room was spotless and very comfortable. Dinner in the restaurant was delicious, very well presented and great flavour. The staff were very helpful and friendly throughout the hotel, including the ladies in accommodation who were super smiley first thing in the morning! The Cons: Through no fault of the hotel, it was difficult to fall asleep due to the 'boy/girl racers' going up and down the road from 10pm. After managing to eventually fall asleep, I was awoken at around 1.30am by the fan in the bathroom which came on automatically without the light switch being turned on. It was extremely noisy and took ages for it to turn off again resulting in a very poor nights sleep. The white pudding at breakfast was stone cold - not even a little bit luke warm so was not edible for me as I like my 'hot buffet breakfast' to be 'hot'. Was not asked upon checkout how my stay was, I would have given this feedback then if the opportunity had been given to me. Overall a lovely hotel with welcoming staff and I would stay again.

We had a “grand” time as the Irish say at the Ellison hotel visiting our family in Mayo!! 2 rooms 4 adults 1 teenager. The rooms we got was perfect size/spotless and cleaned to a great standard we thought! We had breakfast included in our stay which was really good food! We ate lunch here on our arrival day which was excellent!! My teenage son said it was the best Chowder he has had!! Definitely staying here on our next visit :-)))

We stayed in the Ellison Hotel in Castlebar during our CaledonianTravel tour. The hotel is lovely, food was great (buffet breakfast and 3 course eve meal). The staff are professional, friendly and hard working. Bedrooms are spacious and comfortable with housekeeping daily. The only thing I missed was a fridge in bedroom. Well worth 4 stars however. Across the road is a Peace memorial which is worth a visit and it is right next to town centre.

Given a noisy room to front of hotel which was beside a very, very busy Service Station and car wash, asked to be moved and did so begrudgingly, business acumen is monetary, in/out attitude, no respect for customer, constantly zapping doors to get in and out, not suitable for elderly or persons with a disability, felt like Fort Knox, no services for people with disability, Would not recommend for a stay.
