I came across this real gem while driving through westport, it a place full of character and history the furniture is old my room even had an old valve radio in it which still worked, It does not have all the convenience of a more mordern hotel but it is abundant in character more

My girlfriend and I decided to head up to Westport from Galway on a whim and arrived there at about 5:30 right after it was announced that Westport had won the 2006 Tidy Towns Competition. The town was immaculate and as we drove by the Olde Railway I thought that any place that looked that nice from the outside (big... more

Don't go here expecting a Sheraton, a B and B, a country house, castle or anything else. it's more like a museum, one of those houses that was frozen in time and kept that way. The rooms have the same furniture, carpet, everything that was there originally. You can almost imagine a hot cup of coffee, still warm as it... more

The Olde Railway Hotel in Westport Ireland portrays itself as the height of luxury, with prices to match. The place hardly lives up to the expectations. While its on-line picture is taken from an angle that makes the hotel look like it's far from the madding crowd, it's actually in the middle of an all-night party-town. The one-way street past... more

I stayed at the Olde Railway for one night during my first trip to Ireland. In fact, it was my first trip to Europe. Prior to coming to Westport, I had stayed one night in beautiful coastal County Galway and the remainder of the time in Ballyliffen, a picturesque village on the Inishoen Penninsula in County Galway. I hated to... more

I booked this hotel based on the reviews on TripAdvisor. The hotel was very central. Great for nights out in Westport. There is some noise, as it is so central. As for the hotel itself, it really needs a massive injection of cash. There are some interesting rooms (the library appeared to be from the Victorian era and the bar/bistro... more

We stayed in August, 2004 -- 3 of us in one room, but it worked out well; they had a standing screen to put around the twin bed for privacy. Nice location, close to everything in town and very picturesque. I prefer something a little more modern -- if only to know the quality of services will be up to... more

My partner and I stayed in the Olde Railway Hotel for two nights during the Easter Holidays. The location of the hotel could not have been better. The town was footsteps away across the scenic bridge. The room was lovely however the term 'olde' should spell out creeky. As the lodgers next door moved we all moved and their use... more

A hotel in the old style. Different from all the other chains, slightly quirky but charming. Some big rooms and most with old or antique furniture. Right in the middle of town, you can walk to all the restaurants and pubs. Hotel restaurant is fair, but breakfasts are excellent. Best place to stay in Wesport to sample 'Old Ireland'. more
