Stayed here for one night and will not be returning. Don't know how it got a four star rating. Room was ok but bed not comfortable, very soft and sagging, tiny tv set with rolling screen, all lights in room inadequate. Bathroom was fine, shower had great pressure but it could have been cleaner. My big disappointment was breakfast. Buffet... more

We stayed here for a weekend away and were really impressed. The Hotel itself is a little outside the city but is wihin a twenty minute walk of it. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly and it all feels very personal and that they are there to help you out as much as possible. The food in the Restaurant... more

We stayed here for one night & were really dissapointed. We expected a lot more from this hotel. This is not a four star hotel. It didn't have a fitness centre or a pool. If it doesn't have these things I expect more in other areas. The room was spacious but very dark & a bit shabby, the bathroom at... more

The road leading up to the hotel was not great. On arrival at the hotel there was nobody at reception. We had to dial 0 on the phone to talk to one of the staff.Room was very dark and depressing! There was no evening dinner on sunday night,we were informed that only bar food was available. In the guest book we were informed... more

We booked a twin room, and were rather disappointed with it. We checked out a day earlier than expected. Very good food in the restaurant. more

This is a fantastic hotel, and definitely recommended for anyone wanting to chill out and relax. The staff are extremely helpful, accomodating and professional and the hotel has a peaceful feel to it. The rooms are large and very comfortable and the food in the restaurant is out of this world. The lounge and libary areas are great for relaxing,... more

This tastefully decorated boutique hotel has everything you could want for a relaxing serene break away from it all. Having just spent the weekend in Athenaeum I would highly recommend it to fellow travellers. The sumptuous decor and attention to detail, from the Grand Piano in the reception hall to the owner-designed custom made carpets, all give this hotel a... more

The Athenaeum has a suburban location -- rather a long and unpleasant walk from the city centre -- but makes up for that with its quiet ambience and "country house" setting. The room was spacious and modern. The front desk could not have been more helpful. Breakfast was really good! All in all we were very pleased. more

Whilst reviews of hotels are always subjective, I feel that perhaps some comments about this place are a little OTT. It is a very pleasant comfortable hotel which shows all the signs of being independently owned. The staff were very helpful indeed and we spent a very pleasant evening on the terrace and were able to have a bar meal... more

Just back from a very relaxing weekend at this hotel. Already can't wait for our return visit which we've already booked. This is a fantastic hotel for a weekend break in order to relax. Very laid back, staff are very helpful and friendly and the food is fantastic. And it offers excellent value. Could not recommend this hotel high enough. more
