This hotel is for those looking for something different, walk through the front door and step back in time. We were greeted by a jolly lady keen to provide us with afternoon tea and scones in the residents lounge but we opted for the cosy lounge bar with open log fire. The furniture is quaint and old style and the... more

We stayed at Hunters because it was close to where my family came from originally and because we used to go there 20+ years ago. How things have changed. Ireland used to be famed for its friendly service, not at this hotel. The staff, mostly Eastern european, were not interested in you at all. We were travelling with our 20month... more

Hunters Hotel is about 30/40 minutes to the south of Dublin city. It is a traditional old inn, with a very determined emphasis on what used to be the only elements that mattered in a hotel - good food, friendly staff and comfortable rooms. It is located in a very old building which has changed little since the 1800s (apart... more

I stayed at Hunter's Hotel for two nights in the second week of May, 2006. I was with my almost 80-year old mother on a self-guided tour of Irish gardens and I chose Hunter's because it is renowned for its garden. We arrived on a Saturday and a local family was holding a celebration of their daughter's first communion. It... more

As per the previous reviews this is a great place to stay in Wicklow, within easy driving distance of Dublin. This was our second time here, and stayed in the same room in the 18th century building. Staff are quirky but then so is the whole place, with a genuine welcome and slight air of fawlty. Rooms though ancient are... more

Staying at Hunters hotel is like stepping back in time. I half expected Miss Marple to appear at any moment. The hotel was comfortable and atmospheric in a quirky way. Open fires and plenty of 1930's fitings and decour. Original I'm sure. In the bar is a window with etchings all over it. This we were told was down to... more

Hunter's Hotel is small and clean. Rooms are large, well-furnished and have quite luxurious bathrooms. The setting is pretty, but somewhat off-the-beaten track. You'll need a car if you stay here. The hotel is within 20 minutes of the major Wicklow attractions, including some stupendous golf courses. I would recommend Hunter's if you like golf and a "slow pace". more
