This is the third time I have stayed here and if you ask for a quiet room they are very helpful. The staff especially the waitresses are very friendly and helpful. The food is good and the breakfast is a bargain at just over three pounds. In the warm weather the garden is lovely, going down to the river. The flowers... More

Having been here many times, I can confidently say that on the whole the bar service and helpfulness of the staff is very good. The ale is well kept and at a good price and on most occasions spirit/mixers are served correctly. The attention of some staff is certainly better than others, but overall very good. The food is good... More

Friendly, welcoming, helpful staff. My room was admittedly small (unsurprisingly, in such an historic building), but otherwise perfect; and quiet, none of the noise you can get when staying above a pub. Location is virtually in the town centre and on the river Avon.

Visited Tewksbury and wanted somewhere to get a meal and drink. Came across Wetherspoons lodge, The Royal Hop Pole and wow, what a find. With the weather hitting @ 19 degrees we decided to sit out in the beer garden and this made our day. Sitting there lapping up the sunshine, the food, the drink with a fantastic view of... More

We have stayed at this hotel three times before, my wife wanted a birthday break here and so it was our fourth stay. The hotel has been wonderfully refurbished but retains many original features. The gallery on the upper floor is well worth a visit. The room was well appointed and had a very comfortable bed and provides bottled water... More

My husband and I have stayed here six times and as you can tell we really enjoy our stays. The accommodation I'd clean and cosy. We have loved the rooms that we have stayed in pleased that wether spoons have kept the original parts of the building. The best room being at the top of the building, you have to... More

Called in for some lunch and was very surprised by this pub - a wow! Wonderful old building, brilliant staff and good value - what more can you ask for? The pub is a maze of quaint small areas that entice you to explore the entire pub before you find a table to sit and enjoy your meal. We had... More

Have been to many Wetherspoons in Uk and this one has the best service I have found, from the bar staff to the waitresses. The staff are always asking if your meal is ok and show genuine interest in rhe customers. To top it all with this service the Royal Hop pole is extremely good value for money I would... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
This well-known landmark is an amalgamation of historic buildings dating from the 15th and 18th centuries, known as a number of names, including The Crown during King Henry VIII's reign. However, eventually it was named The Royal Hop Pole when Queen Mary stayed in 1937 and gave it the official 'Royal.' Charles Dickens even mentions The Royal Hop Pole in his first novel, The Pickwick Papers. Other interesting information and pictures are located all over the hotel, including information on how the Medieval Banqueting Hall was discovered when the hotel was recently refurbished. The Royal Hop Pole has its own beautiful garden which leads to the banks of The River; there you can see picturesque views of the surrounding countryside and the Malverns. ... more   less
