Could do with a bit of tlc from the outside and my room in the main building would have benefitted from a post 1970 bathroom. Had a look at one of the rooms in the annex and it was spot on. Good service and does what it says on the tin breakfast. Don't expect the ritz for 25 quid a... more

We stopped at this hotel / bar / restaurant just to eat on the way to the Lake District and were appalled by the meal we had there. Comments on the decor on other reviews are accurate but this wouldn't normally bother us. However, the service was extremely slow despite there only being us and another couple in the restaurant... more

arrived on the off chance of finding a room after a really long journey and found the hotel staff to be very friendly and chatty. room was a little tired and the bed was very noisy but it was clean and there was loads of tea, coffee and milk. the return leg of the journey we had room 17 which... more

Well I will start with a positive and say that when I arrived at the Hotel I had no trouble parking whatsoever as the car park is huge! Check in was a little unusual... for one the reception desk is also the bar, and secondly, despite leaving credit card details when making the booking you are asked to pay for... more

Arrived to find out that dinner finished at 5pm. Menu is of the deep-fried variety, and nothing for veggies. The rooms are grotty - outdated decor; wallpaper hanging off the ceiling; switches, remote controls and kettles have that grey/brown stuff on them from years of dirty/sweaty hands; funny smell, a cross between hormonal teenage boy and unwashed workman; and every... more

This is the second time we have stayed at the hotel, We usually stay at the Travel Inn but it was fully booked, so ended up at the Greaves Hotel. Thought we had found a reasonable hotel, first time round. Hotel does need an upgrade, but overall it is basic. Why will we not go back? Well second time around,... more

I stayed here recently whilst visiting Lancaster University on business. Got a friendly welcome but disappointed to be told I would have to have dinner by 7. The dinner menu was largely deep-fried, this place could do with the Gordon Ramsay treatment! The bar was a pleasant enough place but the beer choice was very limited. Wireless in my room... more

You don't expect much at 2 star, and the Greaves manages to both please and disappoint. Its a totally unpretentious and informal place, quite friendly, clean, comfortably warm, and the bed I had was exceptionally good. The so-called "traditional" decor means its a little dated, and there is little emphasis on Staff appearance (e.g. stud, Tshirt etc at reception, which... more

Reasonable hotel. Room prices vary depending on how busy they are, anything from £40 a room to £80 a room. To be frank, my room was worth £40 but I would have been very upset to pay £80. My room was flowery wallpaper, similar bed spread, a slightly tired and definitely old bathroom suite and the breakfast was just ok.... more
