As you may have already ready, all the negative comments are very true, this place is the worse hotel I ever come across in my experience of hotels. I turned up to the hotel, and they didn't have our booking. There were others who booked here too, and they were told their bookings weren't honoured. They lied to us that... more

This is the worst hotel i have ever seen, when walking up the stairs there was spider webs everywhere inclduing in reception. The roomm itself here goes...the wallpaper was peeling, a nail sticking out the bed head rest the sheets did not look clean, no towels, the ensuite was more of a cheap wall stuck up with no lock, the... more

If you're wanting a quick summary, don't go here. Ever. Simple. Locks broken on bathrooms, unclean, bad customer service, crazy heating, loo roll only available on request, no towels for en-suite rooms, plug sockets didn't work, smoke detector covered up. Need I say more?! To elaborate: My boyfriend and I planned to go see Ricky Gervais a number of months... more

Never Stay here!! Ever! Even if you are paid to. This is without doubt the worst hotel I have ever stayed in, and I've been on awful lads holidays to Ibiza/majorca and the like, and stayed in some pretty shoddy places. The merchants hotel made those places look like the ritz. I wasn't expecting much and yes it is cheap,... more

My friend and I booked this hotel on the internet last minute about an hour before we got on the train to Manchester. We wanted something not too expensive in the city centre as we had an appointment the following morning. Once we booked it online I checked out the reviews on Tripadvisor - should have done that first! When... more

We had a stop over to do in Manchester on our way to from Belfast to Egypt. Normally we would just crash at the airport hotel but since we had a few friends in Manchester , me and my better half thought best to pay them an overdue visit. Me being me,  thought best to leave booking a Mancs hotel... more

Anyone who has stoped at this hotel and thought it ok needs their head examined. It is smelly, dirty, noisy, terrible food, awful rooms, and yes even dirty water from the tap in the dirty sink. Everytime someone mentions a bad experience in a hotel, my mother and I both chirp up with CAN'T BE AS BAD AS THE MERCHANT!!!! more

I have stayed in many budget hotels (if you can call The Merchats that) but this was by far the worst. I called the Merchants the before arrival to ask if they had charged my card prior to my visit. Most hotels have card pre-authorisation policy and I wanted to check that they had done this as money to the... more
