I enjoyed a stay at the Hotel D’Avallon Vauban from March 27th to March 30th, 2008. The hotel worked as a great base for exploring Avallon and the surrounding countryside. The walk to the clock tower and Lazare church in Avallon took about 15 minutes. The drive to Vezleay was about 15 minutes and to Semur-en-Auxois was about 30 minutes.

I reserved a family size room and it was very clean, comfortable and roomy. The hotel is attractively furnished and has a lot of character. The hotel was incredibly quiet during our stay – I never heard any of the other guests. Our room didn’t have a fridge, coffee maker, blow dryer, or an overhead shower (it had a hand held shower attachment with the bath) but because it is, I believe, classified as a 2 star hotel, these things did not surprise me. The hotel has free wireless Internet service, which was very reliable and easy to use.
