We were only at Cabalus one night, but out of the 15 days we spent roaming France, I can honestly say this was the best accomodation we stayed in. An ex ancient monestary next to Vezelay's equally ancient Cathedral, the rooms are large and hewn from stone, with country style furnishings and gorgeous artworks. Very simple rooms, with stone floors and even stone shower, with large comfy beds and quiet surrounds. We were there in March and the town almost had closed up until Summer. If you like quiet and or romance, this is perfect. Beware if you're a thrill seeker, the tiny walled town of Vezelay does not have a huge deal to offer by way or partying or many restaurants (especially in March!) but it is a place to relax and take in the country.
Hosts were wonderful and the tea room below offers a great simple breakfast in earthern ware cups. Blissful.
