The hotel is nothing special, except that it sits right next to the Chateau, allowing you to tour the chateau first thing in the morning before the crowds. The desk people spoke good English and there is a free computer to check your email (something we didn't find in most other places we stayed). The restaurant was very good and... more

When I found this hidden gem on my tour through the Loire valley I was totally surprised to find such an affordable place on such a magnificant location. Other reviews are right, it is a two star hotel, and some rooms don't deserve an extra rating. But: There are very cute renovated rooms for only a few Euro more.... and... more

OK, the location is spectacular but the hotel has a two star rating and that's what you get for your money. We chose the Grand St Michel because we didn't want to drive any further into the Loire Valley after picking up our car rental in Paris. This proved to be a wise decision. The journey time from Aeroport Charles... more

Used this hotel as a stopover on way to Auvergne. Agree with earlier reviewers, fantastic location. We opted for a basic room (little on the small side) which was on the side overlooking the car park but quiet enough. Ate in restaurant, good value meal. Watched light show from terrace, not sure what 'extra' you get by buying a ticket... more

My husband and I were driving through the Loire and had made no reservations after leaving Paris. On our way to Chambord, my husband called the hotel to find out if they had any rooms available. They did and I am so happy it worked out! The hotel was super easy to find and it's just breathtaking when you walk... more

We were pleasantly surprised with the unbeatable location of this hotel - literally on the doorstep of Chateau Chambord. The breakfasts were more than adequate, the staff were friendly but we were most impressed with the spectacular light show that occurred at 11:15pm on the Chateau that you could watch from the hotel's outdoor dining area. We had been told... more

We were fortunate enough to get the last available room at this hotel when visiting Chateau Chambord. The room we had was simple but clean, and the bathroom was massive. As the other reviews mention, the hotel is as close as you could possibly get to the cheatau. We were skeptical about eating in the hotel restaurant for dinner, but... more

The rooms were pretty clean and sufficiently spacious, although a bit overheated at times. It's clearly an old hotel but it's well kept and the location is impossible to beat. We were traveling with a baby and young daugther and everyone slept comfortably. The restaurant was pretty reasonable and most of the waiters were very friendly (with one exception, but... more

I've been meaning to write a review of St Michel for a while now but I think I've not got around to it because, quite simply, I think we will always return to this beautiful location and charming hotel. Ever since I first found the hotel over a quarter of a century ago I've been captivated by its stunning location... more

We arrived at the hotel in the evening after a full day of driving the backroads of Burgundy. It was like entering a fairy tale setting. When they say the hotel is close to the Chambord Chateau this is NOT hyberbole. It is truly right next to it. Our room was large, as was our bathroom. We had three windows... more
