I have worked and stayed in de luxe hotels all over the world. I last stayed at the Lancaster in 1987 and was very very impressed If you want swanky or flashy or glitzy do not stay here! If you want private, unostentatious, understated elegance with old world class, look no further. The porter on duty the night we arrived has stated work at the hotel in 1987 - within minutes of chatting I felt like I had never left - this is service , This is class ! Well done to all who work there and preserve that elan which now so very rare in hospitality

Dear Sir, We are deeply honored to read your touching review. Thank you for taking on your precious time to write about the Lancaster on TripAdvisor. On the behalf of the entire Lancaster team, we would like to thank you for these warm comments. At the Lancaster, we cherish the history and heritage of Emile Wolf (hotel founder in 1925). Over the years we have always tried to share this passion with all of our guests and recreate a magical atmosphere with elements such as attentive service and French way of life. We all hope to welcoming you back for another Parisian experience in the city of lights. Yours respectfully. Chris Christophe Lajoinie Guest Care & Front of House Manager

I used to visit this hotel on business and it has been ten years since the last visit. I am pleased to say that it has not only survived but has improved. There were even one or two of the old staff from before, but the hotel has been extensively refurbished. It is a small boutique hotel where they know your name from the minute you check in. The bar and, temporarily the restaurant are all in one at the moment but the restaurant area is being refurbished. Comfortable quiet rooms with all of the normal amenities. The service at the Lancaster has always been very good and it is still the case.

Its not true what they say about Parisians, they are a lovely people that welcomed us with open arms, EXCEPT at the Lancaster. Before I even got there I spent hundreds of euros for pickup at the airport, once I got there the rude staff literally discussed whether or not to upgrade me in french right in front of me (assuming I wouldn’t understand), they decided no upgrade for me. It only went downhill from there. There was food left out in the hallways for almost 2 days, and the staff just got ruder by the day. It is a lovely hotel close to everything, but I would not stay here again to be treated this way. They had a restaurant and bar and also a spa I wanted to try but I couldn’t bear giving them anymore money. Save the headache stay someplace else!

Dear guest, Thank you for sharing your review, although of course I am awfully sorry to read your post. I can ensure you that this is definitely not a reflection of our service and I do apologize if you felt mistreated. Any suggestions or opinions related to our services, or our facilities is highly taken into consideration and, if in any way improvements can be made be well assured that my will is to achieve this goal. After investigating, it seems that our Reception Manager was training our new receptionist at the time of your arrival and brought some kind of misunderstanding to you in the process of your registration. Please accept my sincere apologies for any inconvenience. Should you change your mind, we are all looking forward for a new occasion to welcoming you back and provide you with our professionalism, politeness and best care, which are indeed the basis of Lancaster Customer Care Philosophy. Please do not hesitate to contact me personally. Season’s greetings, Yours respectfully. Chris Christophe LAJOINIE Guest Care & Front of House Manager

This was our second stay at the Lancaster this year. Like our first visit in April, this visit was equally as enjoyable. The hotel is a beauty, and the staff - from the doorman to the front desk to the restaurant and bar- are wonderful. They will go out of their way to make certain you have a stress free, relaxing and friendly stay. The private room and bathroom were spacious, clean and very comfortable. And make sure to start your day with their lovely breakfast. The hotel is a gem. We plan on returning Spring 2024.

We attempted to stay in this hotel in April of 2023. The entire place smelled like sewage. Rather than help the situation the front desk staff was dismissive and rude. The rooms were extremely tired and the place is two doors down from a strip club. We ended up leaving the hotel without a refund for that night or the next night. When we asked why they wouldn't refund the second night they said it was after 3 PM. It was after 3 PM because we spent an hour discussing the issues with the front desk. Stay away from this hotel when in Paris. The rooms I could handle - the attitude from the front desk was unacceptable.

Dear Y5181BEevank, Thank you for joining the Tripadvisor community in order to comment your tentative of stay. I would like to present you my most sincere apologies for not having met your expectations and standards. We are sorry that your first impression of the hotel was so bad that you decided not to stay even one night. We regret that you did not give us the chance to improve. Having double checked your profile, our records show that we only charged you for one night. Therefore, we invite you to contact your travel agent in order to get a refund for the rest of the stay. Feel free to contact me MP if you need further information. Being part of the Fine Hotels and Resorts American Express Program and quoted 5 stars by the French tourism authorities we received regular inspections to verify the high standards of those brands are respected. All the rooms were refurbished two years ago. Our daily goal is to make sure guests will find on site the dream they bought, and we are most sad when we fail. We put all our efforts in making each of our guests feel at home and not just “looked after”, so I am sorry to learn that you did not feel the sense of hospitality that makes our reputation and for which most of our guests choose to return. Should you give us the opportunity of serving you again, we would really like to change your mind on the overall coziness of the Lancaster. With kind regards. This is a sweet, historic and elegant hotel, right in the heart of the 8th. For a boutique hotel, I felt the warm and personal touches from the minute I arrived with my dog from New York City. Yes it’s small and if you prefer a five star, that’s more flashy you might be disappointed but if you are looking for a more intimate and peaceful experience, then this is your place. Exacting what I was looking for on this trip! They accommodated an extremely early check in for me and my dog and even brought him some water dishes and dog bed to the room which was a thoughtful touch. Since I was traveling alone and journeying to London, I asked the concierge staff for help with making my dog a local vet appointment and they did so with pleasure and made the stressful experience much easier for me and my pet. I’m so grateful. These were the kind of moments of care that really stood out. The whole staff was very pleasant and even indulged my poor high school French with a smile. Our room was very beautiful and classic, with a nice balcony to enjoy. Would definitely recommend this little gem. Thank you Hotel Lancaster!

5-Star? Hahahaha..that's funny. ! If it wasn't so sad, it would be funny. "Misrepresentation" is the only word that comes to mind in this old, dusty building on a characterless pedestrian Paris block, with its' stained furnishings and old carpeting w/old sad rooms and low vibe. Note: Whichever company is creating websites for Paris hotels must be doing very well, b/c the hotel looks NOTHING like the website. It is frankly almost cruel to make Americans travel across the ocean to arrive w/their family so greatly looking forward to their summer holiday and then to be so disappointed. To dare call this a 5-star is such an on overreach I cannot begin to tell you. Very briefly, we made reservation in the Touts rooms ( Touts meaning Rooftops) These are supposed to be according to the site "Executive". Ha! Sacreu Blue-NO. 1st off, no warm greeting upon entry. No Lavendar face towels or welcome refreshment-or even water ! . You are informed upon entry, but not b4 that their restaurant Mousier is closed for the month of August (!) (because according to them they cannot find the staff!!) C'MON- So by the way-so if you are reading this and have booked with them, then be prepared to not eat, other than room-service! Boo! Secondly, if you book these small, old dusty rooms, be prepared to take an elevator to the 4th floor and then be forced to walk-up another flight to the roof. Your walk up consists of up an ugly old staircase with no character and ugly old-stained carpeting-to the small old dusty attic room. The 'only' thing nice is the fact that the terraces are large ( for Paris) ( and the staff was quite pleasant) .In any event, the whole thing was just too much for us to bear and we tired and unhappy and just wanted OUT- so, they 'kindly' ( to their chagrin) allowed us to leave without penalty -although a bit of fuss claiming how they "double upgraded " us--Ha! ( to their credit, they did not give me a hard time- except that the Front Desk Manager said to me in his condescending manner " Msr-what are you expecting-a palace,?- I answered, Well, actually yes that would be nice for the money you are charging !.") They were probably used to people walking out-In any event, we had to quickly scramble and find something else which went ok in the end, and we were ultimately happy-except we ended up being forced to spend much more money in a proper 5-Star Hotel. So,

Dear TravelGoGoPro, We consider that all opinions are interesting from the moment that they are made with sincerity and that they are constructive. The opinion you left concern us. Indeed, although you had a reservation in our hotel, you did not stay with us. You left immediately expressing that you did not like the decoration. We respect that, tastes and colors are very personal. However, if you don't like a painting it is not necessarily ugly, it is once again a matter of taste. The vast majority of our customers are very fond of the Lancaster and our customers come from all over the world. Our restaurant is closed every year for 3 weeks in August. However, our bar and our terrace are open throughout the season with a menu inspired by Italy. Our hotel is over 90 years old and was completely renovated in 2020 by Jean Philippe Nuel studio, a French designer. It is one of those hotels full of charm and unique in its kind. We're sorry you didn't give us time to show it to you. With our apologies for not having met your expectations and kind regards. Yours respectfully. I can feel the enthusiasm of the staff and managers of this hotel to keep this old hotel at a five-star level, but after all, due to the history of the hotel itself and the unchangeable size of the hotel, the overall experience cannot be compared with other larger five-star hotels. But Lancaster hotel still has many advantages. For example, it is very close to the business district. Although the hotel has a history of 100 years, it has been renovated during the epidemic. The rooms are decorated with old antique furniture and new There is a balance between the decoration. Some furniture in the room, such as cabinets, chairs, and doorknobs are very old, but it can be seen that they want to strike a balance between the new decoration and the history of the hotel. After all, they have been redecorated. How can the door Why choose to use old antiques for handles and furniture? Eggs Benedict and scrambled eggs for breakfast are very delicious, but avocado toast is not recommended. We also enjoyed bartending and meals at the bar. The pasta is average, but the beef shank, toast, and French fries are not bad. On the whole, it is a hotel that is comfortable to live in, but is limited by innate historical conditions. As a result, no matter how hard the staff try, it cannot be compared with emerging five-star hotels. If you use the AE FHR project, you can consider staying in it. If you book from a booking website, other 4-star hotels may be more cost-effective options.

We had a lovely stay at the Lancaster during our trip to France in May. This was our second stay at the hotel. The rooms were charming and the location extremely convenient. But what made the stay most memorable were the attentive Concierge team, in particular, Eric, and Jeffrey. They tended to all our needs and we’re so wonderful. We are very grateful to them. We look forward to returning.
