We stayed here from June 13-June 18. We actually paid for the night before we arrived so that when we got to the hotel the morning our international flight got in, we could go directly up to our room, and not have to wait until whenever check-in is. We actually had reservations at another Best Western, but the more I looked at other travelers' photos (i.e., real photos) of the room we reserved, I realized the sleeping arrangements at that hotel would not work for our 12-year-old daughter who is almost six feet tall. So, I cancelled that one and made a reservation at the Opera Faubourg (and yes, this is why I always opt for the fully refundable option). We reserved a junior suite on the 6th floor, and yes, the elevator was working. However, the elevator is very small (welcome to Europe, lol!). The three of us could not fit with all of our luggage (3 medium sized suitcases and a backpack each). We ended up having to make two trips. However, the elevator went directly to our room. The room itself was spacious and had a/c. There was a queen size bed and a twin bed that was enough for our daughter. I liked the bathrobes and slippers included in the room. And the room was always cleaned by the time we returned in the late afternoon to clean up and change for the evening. The staff was always helpful with us, and while they do speak English, I taught myself some French before we left, so I was able to ask some questions in French and understand them to a point. I'd like to think it was because I actually made an effort to speak and understand their language that they went out of their way to help us. One of the front desk employees actually walked with me outside the hotel and pointed out all the metro stations nearby and how long the walk was to each one. The hotel is about a one-minute walk to the Le Peletier metro stop, however, it's about a 10–15-minute walk to the Richelieu-Drouot station, which will take you to more places in the city. If you get a cab to/from Gare du Nord, tell the cab driver to go in a straight line, as it's a straight shot from the hotel to the station. We took a cab from Gare du Nord to the hotel when we arrived, and we basically got a tour of the city. Not cool. When we left, we had the front desk employee tell the cab driver (in French) to take the direct route, and he did. We never ate breakfast there because we wanted to try breakfast at various restaurants, but beware that on Sundays, very few restaurants are open for breakfast. We found one that was open just down the street, but that was it. Finally, if you are not from France, you need to remember that you are not in your country anymore, and things are going to be different. Be flexible, learn some French, ask for what you want, and do as much research as possible before you arrive in a foreign country that may or may not necessarily cater to your cultural norms back home.…
