The location is great in the Bastille area, and it is surrounded by nightlife with the area bars and small restaurants. Not really a shopping district but there is a Monoprix (convenient store) just a couple of doors down and plenty of crepe places. My partner and i visited Paris last weekend and thought Le Standard Hotel was great. It was in a fab part of Paris, Bastille has some really lovely restaurants and also a very good nightlife.
