For a short overnight between train and plane I wasn't looking for 4-star luxury (or price) but I did want a conveniently-located, distinctive hotel. The Hotel de Reims fit the bill very well. It is a 5-minute walk from the Gare de Lyon in a neighborhood with many great features, including the Promenade Plantee--an old elevated railway bed that is now a garden walk on top and art studios and shops below (filling in the original archways supporting the track). Access to the upper level of the Promenade is just across the street from the Hotel. As for the hotel itself, it is so freshly renovated that there is still a little bit of a new-paint smell. While small, our room was thoughtfully and quite stylishly outfitted--cool glass light fixtures and substantial hooks and other bathroom hardware. Nothing felt flimsy or cheap.
