We loved the hotel:- the decor was exquisite, the intimate layout of the patio was a delight... Been wanting to go for a couple of years & finally made it.... Our main courses were a disapoinment as both the lamb & the steak were very tough.. Shame as everything else was wonderful... Fabulous place for a romantic get away!

My husband and I stayed here for one night on our way to Jose Ignacio. We had learned about Garzon from Anthony Bourdain's Uruguay episode and being big foodies, we decided lunch wouldn't be enough - we wanted the full experience. We were not disappointed. The property is beautiful - impeccably decorated in the middle of a funky old town... More

We drove to have lunch at Hotel Garzon while we were staying in Punta del Este. The drive was beautiful and the countryside around Garzon was beautiful. The food was definitely wonderful - the steak was the best I have ever tasted. The salad of beets, oranges, goat cheese and onions was quite enjoyable too. Lunch for two with a... More

Luckily we didn't read the reviews prior to booking a spur of the moment anniversary overnight in this quaint and romantic little boutique hotel. We were acquainted with two of Malmann's restaurants, having had great meals at his place in Mendoza and a failure of a meal at his (former) place in Jose Ignacio. We went with no expectations and... Do not go to this place! Malmann probably left this place at his arrogant employees' mercy! What happened to me there: 1.upon arrival, we asked for two simple drinks. The employee was reading a recipe to make an easy dry martini. 2. We were in a party of 10. Nothing was served before 1 hour at the table, the entrees... More

I only read the reviews once we were at Hotel Garzon, arriving less than a week after the disappointed Canadians, and whilst every hotel can't please all of the people all of the time, we had a delightful stay, but I can sympathise with some of the comments in the last review. We stayed for 4 nights and as the... More

We were staying in Montevideo and heard this was worth the trip. After 3 days of not being able to reach them due to their Internet being down, we finally reached them by phone. They sent a form for us to wire $750 US to a New York city account to reserve a room for one night at Hotel Garzon.... More

The town itself is tiny, picturesque, tranquil - the kind of place people don't lock there doors. The chef and owner of the hotel, Francis Mallman, is the Don of the town and has brought several foreigners to buy in the area. The hotel is beautiful, full of back copies of the New Yorker to ponder while you let time... More

We stayed here for 1 night (& 1 very long day, as we just didn't want to leave...) in December. This place is not for everyone - there are no poolside loungers, the rooms are dark & a bit rustic, there is nothing to do in the one-horse former ghost town. But we loved the laid-back atmosphere, the interesting architecture... More
