2nd time for us at the 2 star Lion D'Or in Nogent le Rotrou. it's a nice area between Chartes and Le Mans and the countryside is attractive. the Lion is on the town's main square and despite that meaning the Saturday market starts getting ready at 5am it is worth having a room with balcony at the front and to be able to look out onto a delightful scene. the market is great - everything a local French market should be. the hotel was in need of a lot of renovation when we last stayed 4 years ago. Citotel have taken it over and are starting to improve it - sadly we didn't know that and probably wouldn't have come here if we had. our room was fine - it had a small en-suite shower and toilet room - and was a big improvement on how rooms had been before. i wasn't too keen on walking through corridors of bare plaster, no carpets and with most of the electric wiring exposed. also the breakfast was a bit minimal but adequate - bread, croissant, jam and yoghurt, tea, coffee and cheap orange... more
