I saw a post about cigarette smell in this hotel on a website after making my reservation. So I sent an email and asked to confirm I would get a non-smoking, non smelling room. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the narrow entrance to the hotel opened up into a spacious, peaceful haven. This theme continued on all three floors where each landing had several comfortable chairs for relaxing. We had asked for a quiet, large room which was exactly what we got. Excellent for 2 star hotel. Bedrooms medium sized with large bathroom and separate toilet. Landings on each floor delightful and the whole hotel full of pictures. Its position could not be bettered, near the main square, restaurants and shops. There is a great deal of traffic but worth putting up with. We stayed at Hotel de la Paix in Lille for a long weekend in May 2008. We travelled to Lille by Eurostar and, as long as your suitcase is not to heavy, you could walk to the hotel from the station rather than catch a taxi. It is very central. We stayed in Room 12, which was roomy and clean.... more
