I walked over from the gare (about 10-15 minutes) to check this place out (I don't trust Lonely Planet), and was really pleased. The hotel is an old mansion, with a courtyard and large old style lobby, located on very quiet side streets. It is within easy walking distance of everything. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They showed... more

Public areas have been renovated, but rest of hotel is very shabby and needs work. Our twin room had no bedspreads. Linens were covered with mismatched (one solid brown, one a yellow plaid) badly worn blankets. Blow-dryer broken in bathroom. I was assured it would be replaced, and it never was. Absolutely no warmth or charm to this property. Breakfast... more

I stayed there with my daughter and we had a lovely room. The hotel is very conviniently located in the historic part of Angers but we were disapointed by the breakfast ( very plain ) and the unfriendliness of the hosts. It is a pity really for the price was more than correct, given the area and the spaciousness of... more

This was a nice hotel compared to others we had stayed at for comparable prices. We had a double room with a single connecting adjoining room so it was quite spacious. The courtyard parking was not a problem as the reception staff moved the cars around as necessary for people to get in and out. We would have preferred not... more

Located in a lovely old building, in a quiet part of town, not far from Place du Ralliement where there are plenty of cafes/brasseries/restaurants. Angers pleasant city to stroll round - but don't miss Tapestry of the Apocalypse in the fortress/chateau. Hotel rooms are spacious and clean and very good value. more

The location of the hotel is very nice and calm and just a hundred of metres from the heart of the town. The hotel building also has a great potential, provided that the staff is changed. It is a beautiful old house with comfortably sized rooms and a private, guarded parking yard. There is no elevator, which was a problem... more

I agree with the other posters: this a good value, well-kept, characterful hotel, within walking distance of what you want to see in Angers. The 8 euro breakfast was decent value too - the usual bread/ croissants/coffee but plus cereals and fruit salad. Not all the young staff spoke English, so some French essential. We would go back. Two minor... more

A good value two star hotel. A lovely old building with a gravelled courtyard and wrought iron gates - the exterior and communal areas definitely exceeded our expectations. The room itself was a little functional but spacious, clean and extremely quiet. Not somewhere for a special occasion but a good place for a stopover. more

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Du Mail while visiting my daughter who was going to school in Angers. This is a very quiet hotel off of the main streets which was originally a convent. We enjoyed our stay there and were impressed with the hospitality of the staff. We ate breakfast at the hotel each day and... more
