This hotel came recommended by several acquaintances who have stopped at it previously. It is ideally situated for visitors arriving by train as it is a stones throw away from the railway station in Laon. It is also immediately opposite the 'POMA', a cable driven tram/train that links the railway station with the 'Centre Ville'

My French can politley be described as 'basic', and although I have had to book accommodation by phone, it is something I loathe having to do, in case I am misunderstood. No such worries with the Hotel Du Commerce, I was able to send an email in basic French stating my requirements. The proprietor was quick to respond - in English - and the only information he needed to confirm my booking was my approximate time of arrival. There was no need to supply credit card details, my booking was taken on trust.
