The hotel entrance is unprepossessing from the main road, but once inside you enter a bright, light, airy reception area and well-designed bar. You go down a long, wide corridor with business meeting rooms leading off it, the last of which serves as the breakfast room. This hotel is in a great location - right off a small square with lots of bars and resturants. The public areas are pretty good with a pleasant lobby bar. The disapointment really is in the bedrooms. The rooms are tired, in need of redecorating and in the case of the bathroom the tiles and grouting, need a good clean.... more

Only able to stay overnight as heading to Paris on TGV early next morning, but very impressed by the young girl on evening shift and young man next morning (Sat). Both very friendly and helpful - made you feel welcome. My room was lovely - bathroom great with lovely warm shower. Woke to gorgeous view (as shown) of the town... more

Stayed one night on a business trip, I really enjoyed the hotel location in the heart of the old town with wonderful walks around the old streets and town walls. The hotel car park is convenient as parking there can be a real problem, however they charge eur 8 per day which is a bit expensive for a small town.... more

A delightful town and hotel. I stayed at Mercure Angouleme last year. The hotel staff is very helpful, competent and friendly -- family like atmosphere. Stayed two nights at this hotel last month (May '03) and had a delightful time. At the last minute we added a night one day earlier because of the announced strike (we were coming down from Paris). No problems with this at all. Our room was spacious - with a nice bathroom and a wonderful view over the roof tops... more
