I have just returned from a two night city break to Marseille where I have to say I had a marvellous time and was pleased to find that all the awful rumours about the city being a crime riddled, grimy concrete dive were (in my experience) completely untrue and unfair. We stayed at this hotel despite reading some very mixed... more

The thought of Marseille was brilliant but in reality I would not reccomend going to this City to my worst enemy. It is a sprawling metropolis of crime, concrete and cars. The hotel was meant to be a good value stop over for two nights. In reality it was little more than very poor student accomodation with dark corridors, a... more

I arrived late due to a late flight. The staff were friendly and were expecting me. Even though the lift was compact the room more than made up for it. It was clean and light, with all lamps working. Breakfast consisted of coffee, different cheeses, fruit and crossants, buffet style. conviniently situated between the train station and the Vieux port,... more

Gruff receptionist who was too busy doing nothing to make me feel welcome, dark dingy corridors, with “trip hazard” stairs. Dirty, stained floors, cracked bathroom furniture, no no-smoking rooms available and one coat hanger in a metal “wardrobe”. Bed reasonable, but didn’t want to take my socks off for the dirty floors. Quite a noisy, street corner location, and even... more

We stayed at this hotel in early September and did not have a good experience at all. The decor in the hotel is very depressing and the service we received was worse. We found the staff to be very unhelpful. Our main problem with the hotel was that we decided to head down the coast for a few days to... more

We arrived in Marseille late at night (close to midnight), and had booked this hotel mainly because of the cheaper price- we knew we were only going to be in Marseille for one night and basically all we needed was a place to sleep for the night. The room itself was clean, comfortable and spacious. Our room faced away from... more

Apart from being in a most unpleasant area of Marseille where dingy bars stayed open until 4am, the air conditioning was faulty so the window had to be left open. As a result, the noise was so deafening it was virtually impossible to sleep. The room itself was located at the bottom of a dingy corridor and was not exactly... more

I booked this hotel through the New Hotel web site. That's nothing "NEW" about this hotel. First, we did not have a good feel about the neighbourhood, panhandlers around. The reception was not warm and we were offered no help with or bags. The lift is 3x2.5 ft "Box". The corridor is narrow and dark and with an unpleasant odor.... more

We had planned to spend a week in Marseille, the taxi driver at the airport didn't know where he was going, nor could he speak English. So, he dropped us at the station and left us to fend for ourselves! When we finally arrived at the hotel, the concierge (loosely speaking!) was surprised we were staying for 7 nights -... more

First let me say that my wife and I adore France, but we hated Marseille -- so that might have colored our impressions of this awful dive of a hotel in an awful dive of a city. Based on their website we booked this hotel online for two nights in the summer of 2004. It was easy to find from... more
