Staff was very helpful in directing us to good hiking. Spoke English well. Room size was very generous for two. No air conditioning, but we didn't feel we needed it --even on hot days of July the town cooled off enough in the evening to wear a light jacket. I noticed some reviewers talked about how they only had a... more

The location for this is great, on the main pedestrian street. As others have mentioned the place is like a retirement home, once the leave the lobby the place is just stark white. It could be really improved by some pictures on the wall. Hotel rooms are not as bad with nice wallpaper and comfortable beds. Place did not have... more

Just got back from the hotel and enjoyed my stay - yes the hotel could do with a lick of paint here and there but you also feel if they did it might ruin the style, the quirks are what make it - vintage lights in rooms, chandeliers, antique mirrors and tiles floors in reception + a genuine Rene Pierre... more

First of all, let's get one thing straight. This is a 2 star hotel, and is priced accordingly. So gripes about the thinness of walls, and the odd bit of scuffed paint need to be tempered against the fact that it's pretty much the cheapest place to stay in Chamonix. And you really do get value for your money. The... more

Set on the main pedestrianised street, the Richmond is well located with the slopes bus stop at the rear of the hotel. The hotel does have something of retro feel about it but that works for it with the open fire in reception vey cosy. The staff are wonderful but the walls really are paper thin. Our room was located... more

Great hotel ! Great staff ! Great breakfast ! (the egg machine takes 6 minutes for a perfect boiled egg) Don't break a raw one over your plate then go back and steal someone elses egg as I did ! Brilliant views of Mont Blanc out of giant windows while you eat are wonderful. Hot water on demand ! Heating... more

Before we went away I reviewed some of these comments with horror, and feared the worst. How wrong can you be. The hotel has bags of character, being the home of the Gestapo during the 2nd World war. You can practically still hear the boots marching. The rooms were large by French standards (we had a twin, certainly a good... more

I stayed at the Hotel Richemond with a group of friends in early January for four days. The hotel is a fairly dated property, which is in need of some basic upkeep. It is located on one of the main streets in Chamonix centre, within easy reach of the bars and restaurants. It also backs out onto Alps, and is... more

Me and 5 of my friends (all male) party stayed here from 16-20th of January. We booked through european ski wk ends, which suggested this hotel. I have to say it was great! The building has such character as things seem to be as they were since the 1940's! Reminded me of the allo allo era! Our rooms were serviced... more

For our purposes, a family ski holiday, this was an excellent choice and what we have to say reinforces comments in other reviews. It is a grand old hotel, built around 1914 which remains in the same family hands. Yes, it looks a bit tired and has perhaps seen its glory days but its faded opulence lends to the character... more
