Our daughter (aged 18) was working the season in Val D'Isere and we wanted to go and visit her but didn't want to sleep on her floor. She kept telling us that lots of her friends parents had stayed at Avancher and loved it but we were a little apprehensive as it only had 2 stars. Well she kept on raving about Avancher so we booked and it was truly fabulous. They obviously do star ratings differently in France as this hotel deserved the top star rating. It is family run and that is just what you felt like, a member of their family. All the other guests were saying it was their little secret in the Alps and they returned every year (one couple for more than 20 years). Nothing was too much trouble. It was very cosy indeed and we were made so welcome, we would definitely return if we weren't so bad at skiing (first time skiers) not that that should stop you as there is plenty to do here for non skiers and the scenery is to die for.
