This hotel has the best possible location in Heidelberg, in the heart of the old quarter, provided you can get along with all the crowds that also want to be close. I had wanted to stay at this hotel for years because of its historical associations. What a disappointment! We had been promised upgrades of our rooms, but were put in rooms up and around many staircases and these rooms looked like they had last been redecorated in 1970. The Zum Ritter is as central as you can get in the old town, possibly the oldest building in town. It has been updated many times over the centuries and was in good shape during our visit. The hotel was classic, classy and comfortable. The location is central and makes visiting Heidelberg easy. Our room was large and so was the bathroom - which had a bathtub that we were happy to see and use. Just a very pleasant place. And the front desk staff were knowledgeable and professional.
