My only regret about this hotel is that we didn't stay longer. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME STAYING IN SALZBURG!!!!!! Salzburg is way way way overrated anyways. Berchtesgaden is a short and nice 20 minute drive from Salzburg. Stay in Berchtesgaden instead and drive into Sazlburg. You'll be glad you did and stay at the Hotel Krone. This great hotel has stunning views across the valley to the town and the mountains. It is a little difficult locating it due to the strange switchback to get to the street but once there the Hotel is very nice. My husband and I spent a wonderful long weekend in Berchtesgaden. The hotel and room was very nice & comfortable. The view over the town with mountain backdrop was spectacular. I would recommended having your own transport and bringing your walking shoes to enjoy the beautiful countryside. Berchtesgaden is very quiet - so not recommended for night clubbing :-) more

Very clean nice place to stay...but long walk from town if you don't have a car up a very steep hill. My husband and I are in good shape and it was a difficult climb. We stayed at the Hotel Krone over the Christmas Holidays, and were very impressed. The Hotel is located on the hillside above town, and about a 1/4 mile walk downhill to the center of town. This hotel deserves the good reviews. The cleanliness, decor and service are excellent. If you pay about 20 euro extra for a room with a south facing balcony, you won't regret it. I spent lots of time just sitting there in the evenings, taking in the view of the valley below me and the towering Eagle's Nest in the distance.... more
